Hit and Run April 12, 2007, 02:36:32 AM So tonight, while I was checking my email. I got a call from the police. I'm like, what do they want now (parking tickets?). Anyways, they asked me if this was my lisence plate number. Yea, it is? They said that my car had been hit. The person told me to go and meet the officer outside my dorm on the street. I get out there, and my car is not where I parked it. The rear bumper is where my front bumper use to be. The person that parked behind me must have put his truck into drive instead of reverse. I know it's a truck becasue an RA and another guy seen it happen. I really don't know how the person driving could push my car so far forward. It's been snowing all day, and it started to get icy. I still don't see how he could get my car that far forward without trying.Anyways, I now need new tail lights. I know that It's a blue Dakota, and I'm sure it's the only one around here. So as soon as I see it again, I'm calling the plates in.What do you guys think I should do? Should I do anything legally against the person since it was a hit and run? (More of a push and run, but you get the point) I'll get some pictures tomorrow of it. Quote Selected

Hit and Run Reply #2 – April 12, 2007, 07:57:17 AM I would go after him. Why let him get away with that? Quote Selected
Hit and Run Reply #3 – April 12, 2007, 08:04:31 AM Letting him get away with it would be like letting himbreak your stuff and not doing anything about it. Now are you gonna let that happen? Quote Selected
Hit and Run Reply #4 – April 12, 2007, 01:16:50 PM It CLEARLY was not entirely accidental. I'd charge him or at the least make him pay for ALL the damages. Some guy hit my car by accident with a shopping cart last fall and I made him pay for it. And it ended up being $500, yours could be more than that. I would DEFINATELY do something. This is your baby your talking about! LOL Quote Selected
Hit and Run Reply #5 – April 12, 2007, 02:27:18 PM Get em. If someone damages my car, they had better well pay to get it fixed... Quote Selected
Hit and Run Reply #6 – April 12, 2007, 03:42:49 PM Go after them. I got hit at work one day and thankfully located the car that did it almost a week later. I left them a note and they covered the repairs. Quote Selected
Hit and Run Reply #7 – April 12, 2007, 03:56:26 PM So how would I go about making the person pay for it? Quote Selected
Hit and Run Reply #8 – April 12, 2007, 04:28:35 PM 1. You have witnesses. They should be more than willing to back you up.2. Look for evidence that verifies they did it.For instance, I had the paint of the car that hit me on my fender and a chunk of pinstriping missing. When I found the car, I found my paint on their door along with the piece of pinstriping at the same height. Once you identify the truck that you think hit you, look on it for damage at approximately the same height off the ground that your car was damaged. I even took a tape measure out with me and photographed the height off the ground for the damage to their car and my car to save from guesstimating. In my case I left a note on their car that said something like : on [date] my vehicle was damaged by your car. I know you were the only car parked next to me all day and if you look on your rear door, you will see some of my paint and part of my pinstripe. Please contact me at [number and email]Again though, the person I had to deal with took full responsibility and corrected what they did. In your case though, since it was a hit and run, they may not be willing to admit to doing it. If that happens, get your witnesses and evidence and see if the police can do anything for you. Hit and Run Reply #11 – April 12, 2007, 05:14:54 PM If it was a blue Dakota, why are the scuff marks red?Is that old paint or primer under your current color? Quote Selected
Hit and Run Reply #12 – April 12, 2007, 05:16:21 PM Um, I think I'm going to go and talk to the people that seen it happen. It's red. I'm sure it's the color of the truck, not blue. I'm going to go and talk to the RA and get what happened from him. It was dark last night, so I couldn't tell what color it was, so I took the officer's words. Quote Selected
Hit and Run Reply #13 – April 12, 2007, 05:25:39 PM Not a problem. Like I said, you find the truck and more than likely, you see either your paint, his paint scuffed up or both. He left a lot of paint on your car.Hope you get it worked out. Quote Selected
