No more Advance Auto!!

After a stress filled day at work, I decide to stop at AA on my way home. I dont want to sound too much like a pig, but I had a gut feeling there was going to be a problem when a woman ask if she could help me! I thought maybe I was safe since I only needed a rotor button for the Bird. Wouldn't you know it she comes out of the back with 2 little box's & say's " these are the 2 it call's for", they were both push on type. I then explaine to her that I need the bolt on type. She say's " they dont make one like that for a T-bird" Now I'm starting to get nerved! So I describe it to her & she then proceeds to tell me " Sir, I really don't think you understand what your talking about." !!! Can you believe this? So I figure after this shiznit & MANY Wrong or bad part's prior to this, Ive had it!! I would hope that I'm never forced to spend another $ there! It cost me $1 more, but I walked into Auto Zone & had the rotor button in about 30 sec.:beatyoass: :flame:

It's not their fault.  They have millions upon millions of part numbers.  Do you think someone has had the time to go and see if every single part for every single car and every variation of car matches the listed part numbers?  I bought TURBOCOUPE front rotors from them and they gave me standard sized rotors.  The system listed it for a Turbocoupe but how is the salesperson supposed to know that Turbocoupes had 1 inch bigger rotors unless they own one or are like us and are fanatics/entusiast.

Every AutoZone I've been in use a listing system that was state of the art circa 1980.  I don't trust that.  Pepboys lists every possible part for the category you request....even if that part isn't in stock.  AFAIC Advance Auto has the best system.  I'll continue to use them over anyone because of the system they have.

BTW Advance Auto's website lists about 15 different rotor buttons.....but only 1 bolt on type and its from Accel...plus the computer doesn't give every option like the website..only what's in stock.  And the system doesn't give descriptions...or a note that some might need a special part....my 84 and 87 5.0 didn't use bolt on type...so how was she to know?

The web sight list One from GP that cost $4.44. But either way, wouldn't it upset you for the sales person to tell you that you dont know what your talking about? And the computor doesn't explain the faulty parts I have purchased there& thene had a hard time ruturning them because it's an electrical part. Dont want to offend anyone, but I,m done with them.

its not that she didnt know the tbird used both... instead of accepting she didnt understand what he was talking about she decided to degrade him by telling him he doesnt know what HE'S talking about.  parts people are some of the stupidest mechanics in the industry (vary rare is it to find someone who knows thier shat) b/c all they do is sit or stand at a computer and use the search function.  then they walk to where the number is and hand you whatever it is.  me and my dad went to advance, pep boys, napa (privately owned) and napa central, and when we asked for an ATF cooler they just handed us boxes of a kit that would be an "add-on" when we were looking for a universal direct bolt on kit.  which we found at summit, and now we're having to get special fittings b/c the holes in the trans are metric and the everything else we're working with is standard. the guy at the desk had THE fitting we needed.  the whole eastern shipping and recieving SHOP had only ONE fitting. one thing that  me off more than anything working on my car is i pull out my standard wrench set, take the atf coolant lines loose from the radiator, crawl under the car to get to the trans and the  fitting is metric.  so now i have to crawl back out and go get my metric set.  why did ford do that shiznit?  its like on every part theres BOTH metric and standard size bolts.  it makes me cus the living hell out of ford every time im working on the girl.

Dude sucks to be that Parts Chick. I work at a parts store and even our way outdated 1980's D.O.S. programing and such. It even offers the bolt on type rotor for ANY 79-86 2.3 application. So maybe she is the main part of the problem. I'm not as familliar with the 5.0's and 3.8's but I do know enough that if the person on the other side of the counter tells me that is the wrong parts to shut my mouth and listen to them then do what ever to get them what they want. If you come to my store and I can't find it you know we don't have it or most likely can't get it. I call myself the ford person of the bunch I work with but no matter what I can break out the picture book and go thru it and match it up to what you have or find one listed the should fit your year ford, chevy, dodge, whatever, just buy the picture. I would tell you that if you like going to that parts store go and talk to the manager about it. If not find someplace you like better. I will tell you parts stores are just McDonald's theres Good ones and theres BADDDD ones. It's up to you to pick witch ones to vist or do business with.

Are system also list the rotor and bearings and seals as options all the way back in 83 in the T-bird/cougar although it does call it supercoupe not turbo coupe. Also that brake rotor ,and bearing/seal  info is only correct for 87-88 turbocoupe models. The 83-86 turbo coupe got standard T-bird brakes up front.

I guess I am lucky then, My AA has very knowledgeable people. They have even helped in diagnosing some problems just by the symptoms. But yeah, you gotta shop around to find the smart people.

Help me out here, what's a rotor button?  Is that another name for a wheel stud?

I walk into the store with the partnumbers I want that I took the time to get myself off the website.

If it's something I can wait on, I order it.  If it's something I want, I walk in, tell them the item and the part number and am done with it.

Saves time and headaches that way.

Oh yeah I don't go to the parts store. I have to work there. I look up and pull my own parts. I like it that way.

I,ll make sure I have the part # from now on, no matter where I go. I,m thinking about going back to the same lady at AA with the #.  Maybe she will think about it if anything like this ever happens to her again. The guy at Auto Zone said he hears about 3-4 complaints  per week about the woman at AA.That proves how much business AA loses because of one employees attitude. But at least I live in an area that has 4 AA & 3 AZ to choose from within 20 miles.

There are usually more than one person working at any parts stores...why not ask for someone else?

I walk in, grab the keyboard and smack the person behind the counter and yell "GO AWAY!". I get the right part every time...
