I plan to...

Hello,

I just found an idea, starting a thread for the guys want to know the bodywork on he's car...

I have near 30years of experience in that, and know what is obscure for a lot of people to repair some things on the car...

I don't pretend anything, I'm not a professor, and ect, But I want to help on that...

The thread was for the unexperienced guys, with a lot of pics, what the right stuff to have, and with a basic stuff to work, like no body hammer, a wood hammer will do the job, ect...

I do this as basic as possible, and explained to My best, to help a non bodyworker to do a good job, I plan to take My part '88 Bird to make a bumps or whatever to do this, and some panels I have...

What do You think of that?... Concerned or not!!!.

Great idea. There's always stuff to learn.Get after it.I'm looking forward to seeing your tech.My biggest work is the lower rear 1/4 panel on the passenger side.It has a shallow dent that I got mostly fixed.I think a little filler and it'll be fine. The other problem is the driver's door. The leading edge of the door has a small bend outward in it,like it was pried on or something with a screwdriver.I'll probably have to pull the fender off and hammer it back down flat, and perhaps a little grinding.I'd like to hear your ideas and methoda of bodywork.

I, as well, don't have 30 yrs, but close. I've worked in various shops for 10 yrs, then on my own in a friends shop and out of my garages (when I've had 1) for 10 of the last 14 yrs. I am always willing to pass what knowledge I have also.  :D

If I start a thread on that, I'll post a lot of pics of a bumped panels, and some difficult to redone, ect, ect, and will do with a basic stuff, like a plastic(bondo) filler, and STANDARD finishing putty, the catalytic putti is same but need to be sanded in 20 minutes, and for some unexperienced guy's, it's so fast and to be grinded...

Vinnie!,

I'm not a "god" of body, but I worked a couple of years in that, since My 13 years old I see a lot of thing, and learned from a couple of exceptionnal guys (masters), one of this guy learned to me the "how to" curve a metal sheet like a paper, It was a master, I see this guy mold his own VW beetle front fender, only with a dolly and body hammer, it was so amazing, I keeped a rtick as well:D ...

Cougrrrr302,

You're welcome if I start this thread, as stated below, I'm not a "super reference", but I have a couple of years of experience, and any trick from anyone will be welcome, especially from a guy work in this domain like You...

I'll wait a couple of days or weeks, to have some interested feedbacks from other guys, and if is positive, I'll start to bump some panels and take a pics, and post a pics with the how to, and the stuff (cheap) needed...

If I start a thread on that is for the UNEXPERIENCED guy's, try to fix his fox car, or "poor man's" do it yourself, I never explain that with a walter/metabo grinder or a spraying gun, or need a 5hp air compressor, I'll try to keep simple as possible, but good job's...

I never explain a trick like a "plastic/bondo" over the paint...

The basic tools will a hammer, a wood block, and a sandpaper.

Preferred tools will be a 4-5" body grinder (cheap one), rubber sanding block, cured rope (I always use it), and some cheap tols like that...

A guy with a 2 gallons compressor and a little sandblast gun will do a great job...

Anyway, I'll wait for other replyes before I start this thread...

Have a nice Day,

Dom.

Sounds like an excellent idea!

I have a small hammer and dolly set that I was given as a gift.
I'll be taking some dings out of fenders and doors I have waiting installation on my '88.

Since I really don't have any experience with body work other than bondo, lol, any info/advice would be an incredible help.

I think this is a great idea. I also think that you should while doing it "Back Yard Style" Show what tools should be used. but what can be used. So if people want to get stuff for later they know what to get.

I am a complete novice when it comes to body work

Well, okay, I'll start a thread in a few days.

The first pics will be the BASIC tools to do this, like a "bondo" glasers, finishing putty glaser, plastic (bondo) rope, hammer(s), ect, ect, and the basic stuff to do.

A little air compressor (like $100 one) will be help, but not very needed, except if You plan to paint...

Okay, I'll start ti pic a couple of photos today or tomorrow, and I'll post in a new thread...

I hope this thread will help some guys here...
