450hp Engine Has Begun!!!!

I have been looking for an excuse to tear my t-bird apart and rebuild the 351c to better standards. Well yesterday I was driving it and I heard a ticking noise, had good oil pressure.I just changed the oil the day before. So after checking it out I revved the engine up to see if I could hear it better and then it happened, broke another valvespring. So then its missing like hell and I had to drive 7miles home. So thats when I decided to just do it.
Heres what Im going to do.

351c  .040 bored
Forged Pistons,JE (for the special juice she will have)
reconditioned rods,arp fasteners.
Stock crank,balanced for 28oz
351c Doae 4v closed chamber heads, stainless sd valves, comp springs (good for .650 lift).Little port work.
351c Comp retrofit hydraulic roller cam, ford racing lifters, comp pushrods, scorpion roller rockers.

And then reinstall into the bird, with 3500 stall.
What do ya'll think. I will post pics of progress.
If it dosent run low 12's on motor and "hella fast" on the juice I will be very dissappointed.

"reconditioned rods, arp fasteners" is the only thing that sounds bad. Aftermarket forged H-Beam rods for the 351C are so cheap they might be less the reconditioning the originals. Not to mention you can go full-floating pin, which increases HP, durabitlity, and lessens the machine work bill. I'm kinda doubting the heads too, especially with the nitrous. I need more info though, what fuel system, intake, carb (i'm assuming it's carbed) you're running, cam specs, and the nitrous kit (wet/dry how many HP?).

Dont have exact parts picked out yet,but i'll have to use the heads
because I already have a intake, headers for 4v heads. My friends dad builds FE motors for a stock class and gets 600hp out of stock parts,428cj's mostly. His 70 mustang goes 10.20's in his class. So I dont know if he knows alot about the 351c's. But any info is good info. I want to drive my car alot, and still go fast!!!!

Well, it's just aluminum heads are much more forgiving with a nitrous set-up. Not the 4V heads are bad by any means. I build engines for a living so I'll be more then happy to meake recommendations for you. Fastest so far is a 7.80's @180 alcohol 428 AMC (stroked 401) dragster. :D I like building budget street motors the best though.

May I ask what headers you're using?

I have Hedman Hustler 17/8 primary,3inch slip on collectors, for fox-body with 351c 4v heads. $600 is about what they cost when all said and done. And they are not even coated, ceramic, powder.

Yeah a budget buildup is what i'm doing. I did want to do a 393,408,
but just dont think its worth the money. I was told I can build a 400hp 351c with stock rotating assembly. So the stroker money can be used elsewhere, thus valvetrain,roller-cam,ect. Since I have the 4v heads I will have to spin the rpms to get the power. I already could tell my car lacked the 60' power but came alive mid track and pulled like hell until I ran out of rpms. So with a 2.30 60' and a trap speed in the 100's it made it all on the big end. But better 60' = better ET
but less mph. So we'll see how it goes and any input will be awsome.

The reason the car lacked the 60 foot power is because the ports on the 4v heads are HUGE,and you have a heavy car there.
450hp,not sure about that,to get that out of a 351c your gonna have to up the compression to like 12:1 so decking those 4v heads down around .40-.50 thou would be prominent or a domed piston may be a better route(your going to need the compression).
I decked my 2v cleavland heads .50thou, raised my comp up about .50-1.00 point.
Your going to need to run race fuel, have a roller cam with around .600 inch lift and run around an 800cfm carb, your intake should be ok, is it a dual plane???
If not there's another big hit in your torque book,if it is a little port and polish could not hurt.
Full roller rockers are also a must to eliminate some valve train friction and free up a few more hp.
Sounds like your exaust and headers are up to the task.
With all that you should make the hp.
I figure my 2v clevland with .540" lift hydraulic cam, decked and ported heads, roller tip rockers, edelbrock dual plain(also ported)625cfm carb and headman full length headers is good for around 350hp,to add another 100hp would be expensive.

Maybe I'm being to optimistic, but I figured I had 350+ with the first build. I'm going stainless valves, full roller setup, more compression
probably not. I've seen cars make alot of power without a 14:5:1
comp ratio. I'm doing street strip. Chevys get 400hp easy in the small block. So when I get it done we'll just have to see what shes got. But I'm not saying your not right, but if so I'll be dissappointed.
Do you have more duration on the exhaust in your motor. I also had a .536 lift cam in engine before. Still any info is good info,THANX GUYS!!
