B piller trim? January 27, 2007, 07:44:42 PM Im not sure what you call it, but its the outside trim on the end of the door frame next to the glass and the matching piece on the B piller. My 86TC is missing the piece on the driver door. I went to a couple salvage yards today and the only Birds were 83-84s and the trim looks different and attaches different. On those Birds there is a mounting bracket attached to the door with 3 phillip screws, the trim snaps on the mounting bracket. The trim is smooth. On my 86 it looks like there isnt a mounting bracket and the trim snaps into holes on the door. Is this correct? My trim has ridges on it. Is that a TC specific piece or do all 86s have that style?Should I get all 4 pieces off the 83 or will I be able to find the piece I need for my 86?Thanks Quote Selected
B piller trim? Reply #1 – January 27, 2007, 08:01:00 PM You should have that mounting plate with the snap-wires bolted to your door. At least that's how both of my '86s were. You can see part of it here:I think the ridged piece may have been an option. There's an '86 Turbo Coupe in my local bone yard and it has the ridged B-pillar trim. You could problably find some smooth trim and use them on your car. I never cared for the ridged pieces - too busy for me. Quote Selected
B piller trim? Reply #2 – January 27, 2007, 08:57:55 PM Ridged B-pillar trim was for Turbo Coupes and turbo XR7's only. The chrome "striped" B-pillar trim was for Cougar LS and Thunderbird LX (possibly other T-Birds). The rest of the cars had flat, solid grey B-pillar trim. Just FYI. :) Quote Selected
B piller trim? Reply #3 – January 27, 2007, 09:03:46 PM On closer inspection it now looks like the ridged pieces snap in on top of the smooth pieces. So Im only missing the ridged piece. I guess I can go back and get all 4 smooth pieces but I would like to keep it all orginial, since the car came to me in that condition. As far as I can tell not one single mod has ever been done to this car. Quote Selected
B piller trim? Reply #4 – January 27, 2007, 11:08:51 PM I'm pretty sure that ridged section is riveted onto the base B-pillar trim. My theory is that with all the bumps your car ever sees over time, the rivets start wiggling around and make the holes in the base trim bigger. Then that allows the ridged section to just pop out. Plus the fact that they're dark grey and hold heat probably doesn't help much either. I really don't know what Ford was thinking with those LOL. Quote Selected
B piller trim? Reply #5 – January 28, 2007, 01:18:57 AM I have a full set of four ribbed pieces, if you're interested Quote Selected
B piller trim? Reply #6 – January 29, 2007, 10:23:00 AM The ones I have seem to be glued and sorta riveted. The rivet pieces are made into the plastic that the ribbed piece is made from. Over time the plastic rivet part breaks and the ribbed piece doesn't want to stay on. Quote Selected

B piller trim? Reply #9 – January 29, 2007, 12:32:50 PM K...I'll double check the info from the dealer order books when I get home. I have seen both with and without on XR7's. Quote Selected
B piller trim? Reply #10 – January 29, 2007, 04:05:38 PM My 84 T/c has the ribbed trim. My 85 XR7 doesn't have the ribbed trim. I know when I was at Bill's house he has like 30 fox t-birds/cougars. Most of them are turbo coupes. Most of his 83-86 have the ribbed trim I don't recall seeing it on the cougars. But this is by no means a rule to go by. Quote Selected
