East bound and down: Montreal that is... January 23, 2007, 12:54:46 AM A good friend of mine has moved from the great white north, into French territory, and I have got a few days off in February to go visit him. As I have never been anywhere east of Thunder Bay, ON, I just wanted to ask you all who live in Montreal or who have visited there a few questions. What tourist sights do you recommend in the city?We plan on skiing two days at Mount Tremblant, are there any interesting sights in that region I should go seeWill I be ok, only knowing two words in FrenchIs it hard to get used to driving on the left hand side of the road :)Just kidding on the last one, although I think Montreal will be a little different to drive in than rural Manitoba, although the 32 hours drive should ease me into that city driving mood. Oh! One more thing, is liqueur cheaper in Quebec, Ontario, or Manitoba. Just to compare here a "two four" is $35, and a "two six" of Canadian 83 is about $22 Thanks for any advise or recommendations. I'm not in Montreal, but near Montreal (20 min@60mph)...The thing You will see in Mtl is the "old Montreal", It's very very beautyful, lot of good restaurants, lot of things to see, some ride on a sleigh with a horse, ect, ect, It's the better place in Montreal...Other interesting site to view it's the Olympic stadium, it's a spectacular structure to view, I see the tower from My little town at around 20miles in straight line in the night, but HURRY before it implode or fall down:hick: ...Some other places, but theres the most important. For the Mt Tremblant, I know this place (it was a race track 30years ago here), but I'm not skiing, But when You here, You found some good places for sure...I guess Your two words in French is YES and NO (oui et non) heheheh!, Montreal is bilingual at 95%, no prob's there..For driving on the highway, it's identical as Your region, I'm on the east suburban of Mtl, and here's a BIG difference between rural road driving than Montreal driving and highway driving:D Quote from: merccougar50;125220Oh! Just to compare here a "two four" is $35, and a "two six" of Canadian 83 is about $22 .By "two four" You say a 24 beers I guess, the price vary a bit depending of the region, A 24 beers cost between $28.00~$36.00, a 12 is around $18.00~20.00, and a 6 pack is around $10.00, But the CANADIAN brand beer is a bit rare in Quebec, but some places have this...Quote from: merccougar50;125220Thanks for any advise or recommendations. You're welllcome...Have a nice Day, Quote Selected
East bound and down: Montreal that is... Reply #2 – January 26, 2007, 10:27:17 PM Thanks for the reply. I will definitely check out Olympic stadium! The reason I was asking about liqueur, is that the prices west of here very greatly. A two four (local slang for a 24 case of beer, domestic bottles) is $35, but next door in Sask., it is $49. So when ever we go to visit family in Sask, they have us load up the truck with cases of beer. I was just thinking if Quebec or Ontario is much cheaper, I'd stock up on the ride home. Oh, and a two six (another local term I guess) is a 26 oz. bottle of Canadian "83" whiskey or Crown Royal. And more good news, I punched my route into Mapquest.com, and they claim its only 27 hours. That's kinda what I had heard too, from other tourists in Quebec, but I guess peopel around here would probably do the same thing if someone walked into the Esso in town and started speaking French.I checked out olympic stadium on the net, its looks cool. I will definitely go up the tower. No fear of heights here. Twenty seven hours ain't that bad. Plus these are good roads the entire way and I hear you can go 75mph on the interstate now, as compared to the old double nickel up here. Quote Selected
