Need A Speaker Box Help!!! Reply #4 – December 18, 2006, 06:24:00 PM the rear shelf yes..box is by no means cheap seeing the wood is 20$ a sheet... if its small woofers... it should work fine.. 10's and 8's Quote Selected
Need A Speaker Box Help!!! Reply #5 – December 18, 2006, 08:14:23 PM if you want 8's go get a box from walmart it will save you some money plus you can put whatever speaker you want in it. Quote Selected
Need A Speaker Box Help!!! Reply #6 – December 18, 2006, 09:58:13 PM most aftermarket boxes are least 14 inchs high with 12's in the box.. in order to get 12's to fit you will have to make your own custom box what subs are you useing?if you have them allready i just need the spec's from what ever subs you want to use."brand and part number".and i can give you the spec's on how to build the box to fit the car.i might be switching to two 12's not just any 12's for pro audio. since 99% of my music are DVD concertscheck this site out http://www.partshagpress.com/webpage.cfm?WebPage_ID=30http://www.partshagpress.com/Nick Quote Selected
Need A Speaker Box Help!!! Reply #7 – December 19, 2006, 08:43:32 AM the box my 12s are in sits out over the lower part of the trunk with the sides supporting it. in other words, it barely fits. Quote Selected
Need A Speaker Box Help!!! Reply #8 – December 19, 2006, 01:02:51 PM basically if you whanna save cash and not build your own then you will have to take out the rods. And in place of those rods you can use gas filled shocks. like on the newer cars. cougarman has done this and its a great idea. basically you will have to take the mesurement for the trunk lid at wide open. then there should be on the mounting bracket for the trunk hinge a hole you can place the bottom of the strut. thhen at the top (trunk lid) your gonna have to fab up your own mount. its easy to do and cheaper than actually goung out and building the box since wood isn't cheap. Need A Speaker Box Help!!! Reply #9 – December 19, 2006, 03:43:55 PM Has anyone ever priced box designs from buying online? Or from buying from an audio shop? If you buy online, you have to pay a rediculous price for a mass-designed box and shipping charges. In an audio shop, if you want the box built correct you will be spending big bucks as well. If you want to go cheap and build what you want to your specs, then go ahead and build a box. In all reality, it's not that tough. You simply have to take your time and do it correct. Quote Selected
Need A Speaker Box Help!!! Reply #10 – December 19, 2006, 05:25:50 PM i don't know where everyone gets the idea that it cost a lot of money to build your own box .. now on the other hand yes to have a stereo shop build one for you the way you want it would cost a lot it will take them about a true 2+ hours to build it.. plus parts. ie wood, screws, glue, paint or carpet. and so on.. at about $70.00 labor thats about $175.00 plus parts.. depending on how you want to finsh the box is up to you.. ie paint or carpet..now if you build it your self it's just all parts and your labor..tools is all you need to have. jigsaw, circular saw for the straight cut but if your good if can be done with the jigsaw,a drill with a screw bit or screw gun, a compass it draw the circles for the subs.. some subs come with a template to draw the hole with,a small drill bit to drill small pilot holes to start the screws so the wood does'nt split,a ruler,a sander if you suck at making straight cuts or are to lazy to sand by hand,a router if you want rounded edges.. i have done this by hand allso..if you plan to carpet the box then you won't need a router.. and basic mathematics..most people have most of these tools if not all of them..well at least basic mathematics i hope lol :p ok the partswood.. about $20.00 a sheet 4'x8' depending on the size of the box could be alot less up to a half less.good wood glue.. about $4.00 and good to build more then one box..drywall screws.. about $4.00 and the same as the glue will build more then one box.. bondo or i prefer duraglass similer to bondo but it's stronger.. used to fill the the wood joints for an air tight enclosure and to corect any minor mistakes in wood cuts. and will be sanded smooth..about $5.00 a pint speaker wire.. depending on what gauge you use.. and can be bought at your local home depot 12gauge about $1.00 a foot 14or16 gauge about $.50 a foot.. so lets say $10.00speaker terminal cups.. about 1.00ea speaker sealing caulk.. 36" roll 1.00speaker terminals.. about $1.00 a bag unless you want to solder them..if painting.. two cans of primer about $8.00 what ever color paint about four cans $14.00 now if you want to carpet your box about $12.00 for the carpet.and $11.00 for good 3M contact adhesive to aply the carpet..which is about the same price as painting. your choice..and last fiberglass insulation about $10.00 a roll at home depot and will again build meny boxes the stuff listed below can be bought here http://www.partshagpress.com/speaker terminal plates, wire, carpet, speaker sealing caulk,so the grand total is $80.00 with allmost enough parts to make two boxes at least another box in the rough..and i will tell you what size to build the right box not one that might fit and or sound right... those premade boxs are not right for most subs.. and in my eyes is a waste of money unless it fits right and is the right size for the subs..any other questions?come to think of it my box might be up for sale soon it has 4 8's and pumps! and handles a true 600 watts RMS.. the box is 37" long 10" high and 12"deep.. equals 1.83355 cubic feet sealed not ported!and is in my cougar right now..Nick Quote Selected
