Crossover or Equalizer ? November 29, 2006, 05:26:18 PM A guy is offering a 3 way electronic crossover, and the price is right. I have a good set of 4 5x7 speakers installed. They sound good, but when i pump the volume of the bass, they start to distort. Obvious, these speakers cant handle low frequencies, like the 2 10" punch bass. I changed the factory radio for a Sony Mp3 radio, but it only has a pair of RCA´s. sp im using Y´s. I am using separate amplifiers, one for the speakers and one for the tens. My question is: what would be better ? buying an equalizer to cure the problem or buying the crossover ? thanks....a pic of the crossover...EDIT : I´m currently using a subwoofer crossover..... Crossover or Equalizer ? Reply #1 – November 29, 2006, 09:45:21 PM In my opinion I would get the crossover. The EQ would help but it would also affect the amount of bass coming from the 10"s. The Crossover would remove anyhting below the frequency you set it at. That would just remove the unwanted lows from those speakers that don't like it. You could also use capacitors to remove the lows from those speakers. But the crossover is the best way in my opinion Quote Selected
Crossover or Equalizer ? Reply #2 – November 30, 2006, 02:29:23 AM Is that white pyramid the one your looking to get? I'll give you one for the cost of shipping if you want it. I hooked it up once but never had it in use, brand new like 4 years ago :pScott Quote Selected

I´ll be glad to accept your generous offer if we werent like 4000 km apart, i guess shipping would be very costly. But thank you, i appreciate very much your help Scott.IPSD, i am thinking the same about the low frecuencies, if the crossover can cut lower than 125 hz, it´ll be my choice. Actually i tested an Eq today; is one of those "baby equalizers" with 3 sets of outs. It sounds good but it cant cut the lows when the volume is high, it only "tunes" the sound, and i set the gain with the method you told me before, so im not using improperly the gain control. Ill talk with the guy later, maybe i can test the X-over performance. Thanks man ! I´ll Keep you updated.... Quote Selected
