Conventional to Electronic???

Hi Everyone,

I have a 1985 with the factory conventional cassette with premium sound. I would like to upgrade to the factory electronic cassette with premium sound. Would it be plug and play? If not, what would I have to do to make it work? I would like to keep the factory wiring and amp if possible. If it will, what years and models should I look for that will interchange?

Hi,

If I understand correctly, You want to change the standard digital cassette player with bass/treble buttons (rotary ones) to a Digital cassettes with a digital controls for the bass and treble, is this?...

If Yes, You just have to found a cassette player like You want with premium sound too, and plug the harness on the radio, and it will work...

So pay attention to take a premium sound car equipped radio, I say this because in some cases the premium sound have a .775 volts outputs to drive the amplifier in the trunk.

There a three differents premium sound in the Ford's, one is the oldest (little "rounded" amplifier in the trunk) made of an aluminium with a two square harness with a big colored wires.

The other is a Ford branded too, but a square box made of aluminium too, black or aluminium color, with two connectors, one with a "big" wires, the other connector is a cable of approx 1/4" round shielded.

The third, is a BOSE amplifier, bigger than the second, same size (around 10"x7-8") but 3-4" height, this is the same system of the second one I noted, but more powerful...

The big mistake in that is to put an speaker output of the radio in a .775volts input, this will result on a severe damage of the amplifier, and/or the radio, but more to the amp...

IF You have a factory equalizer in the dash, it's defenitively .775 volts input...

If My explaination is not too clear (My english is so~so), explain me a bit more Your problem...

BUT if You put out a premium sound radio, and put another premium sound radio of the same era, this will be probably okay...
