i know this has been talked about before but i cant find it now.i have a 1988 cougar with blown 3.8 and want to put in a 88 5.0 HO from 88 mark VII,what will i need from the VII to do this swap?thanks

You will need the engine harness out of an 88 V8 cat or bird.. not the mark.. New motor mounts.. and possibly use the fuel lines out of the mark. Marks computer as well.

You'll also need the exhaust from the Mark.It's a little longer in the mid pipe area,but that can be shortened.The H-Pipe will fit the T-Bird.You should also change the fuel pump.If you have the Mark VII,sell the little parts on E-bay to pay for your bits and pieces you'll need.

how much lph to have on a fuel pump for  a 5.0  S.O with bbk headers, magnaflow exhaust, bbk intake powermaster alternator thos eare what i have

I think you'll need the battery tray as well. Should be mounted at the front of the driver's side fender for the 5.0. I think it's on the passenger side on the 3.8 cars.

You may also need and most likely will need to change some of the sensors to T-bird/Cougar parts. Might be able to get away with the existing ones on the 3.8 but it's good to get new all the way around.
The oil pressure sensor will be one that you'll have to change for sure.

nah.. the batteries on the 88's 3.8 is on the driverside as well... as well as the soleniod and everything.

why cant i use the mark harness? is there somewhere that i can get the motor mounts?

Cause it's vastly different than what the Birds/Cougs use. It has the LSC's air ride and ABS system intergrated into it, total nightmare. Travels down the left side, across the radiator support, up the right into the EEC... Was my first choice till I took a good look at it...

Unless you are doing more upgrades to the HO, you really don't have to get the fuel pump.  When I changed the 88 3.8L to a 92 Mustang 5.0 HO, I kept the same fuel pump and still measure the correct fuel pressure at the rail and have had no running issues.


V6->V8HO 88 LS
