problems not sure what to call it

I swapped the dash in my 87 tbird a while back to the full digital dash. I like the fact that it has the computer in it that tells you economy and how far youve gone and all that good stuff. only problem is the economy part doesnt work. I thought it was because the fuel sender is the wrong one, but I ran across an article in the coolcats site where they talk about putting the clock in with the computer in it that reads your economy and all that. is it possible that my car is missing the wire like they were talking about on that article? its the fuel flow wire coming from the computer. could I possibly have to run that wire to my dash to get the economy computer to work?Any help would be good

I think you have the right idea. The tripminder computer that replaces the clock does the same functions as the built-in unit on the dash. Fuel flow signal would be required for instant fuel economy readout.

The data output from the EEC is pin 34, feeds pin 4 on the cluster. It is shown to be a Lt-Blue/Pink wire(be careful the '88 EVTM also shows a Lt-B/P wire on pin 16 that is power from the fuse panel, suspect that may be a error).

ok cool so all I would have to do is splice a wire into the one there or do I have to run an entire wire on it?the cluster part isnt a problem I have the ends for those plugs from an old toasted harness out of an 83 so it should be pretty well a perfect fit on the speedo side. I dont have a piece off the computer side of the wire harness though so hopefully its just splicing into a wire already there. also do yall know if the distance until empty will work with that or does that run off the fuel guage? it would be nice if I could get that to work then not having the fuel guage wouldnt be a problem as much.

ok guys I threw on some extra clothes since its about 6 degrees out with the wind. grabbed some wire and my splice kit. took the cluster out and hooked the wire in the 4 pin its the brown plug btw ran that baby across to the EEC and pulled the trim off . got to the EEC and started looking at the wires. first thing I thought was ohhh man what a clusterf$ck looked at the wires theres like a blue and pink and blue and red and pink and blue and red and blue and about 90000000000000 other colors that I didnt even think existed in the color spectrum. spliced into a red and pink wire and started the car.
Found out at idle I get 0 MPG which was nothing normal. decided I should brave the ice and snow covered road and see if it works. it seems through town I get between 13 and 19 MPG. I also found out on the highway if Im accelerating and then let off and coast that thing shoots up to anywhere near 50 to 60 MPG kinda wish it was downhill everywhere Id never have to get gas. so to quit with the rambling it works great, its kinda nice knowing that I can see how many miles I get to the gallon it'll help me figure out whats hurting and saving my fuel economy when I do mods to the car. So thanks again to everyone who helped . Im glad I found this place hopefully this'll be as much help on my next project I have problems on.
