Blower motor switch problem?

Here's the deal: 88 Cougar, manual A/C.

Currently the first three speeds on the switch give low fan speed; put it on the fourth position (high) and it works normally. I already replaced the resistor switch in the blower motor, didn't change anything.

But...if I wiggle the switch between 4 and 3, the blower motor gives me other fan speeds.

Can this switch be cleaned/fixed, or easily replaced?  Just wanted some feedback before I dig out the switch from the control unit myself.

I havn't got the manual A/C so I can't give exact details.
But an overheated switch is probably never going to be good again.
Burnt contacts and bent arms won't take much current before there gone again.
Most of our switches are pretty easy to replace.

There are only two tools you will ever need:
1) WD40
2) Duct Tape
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it moves and shouldn't, use the duct tape.

goto the parts store and get a new switch. The hardest part is gonna be getting the heater panel out to do it. I think you have to unhook the blend door cable to get it out far enough to work on it. I haven't done this so I'm not 100%.  Also does you fan motor make any werid nosies when it is on high? Could need a new blower motor also. I replaced my resistor and it worked for 2 weeks. I guess the motor is worn out enough that it over heated the resistor again. It does make a funny sounds after it is on for a while in high.

Yeah, mine's starting to squeak (not constantly) after driving for a while: low or high fan speed. And my heater core is also going south...maybe over Christmas break I'll pull the dash and replace all of it.

Oh man, I knew this was coming. :dunce:

You deserve that for not getting snow down there! ;)

My bet is also on the fan speed switch. You might be able to get the contacts cleaned up. Either way it has to get disassembled though. If it were me, I'd just as soon replace the switch with another, and be done with it.
