87 tbird biggest wheel/tire combo September 06, 2006, 08:02:33 PM hey guys im new here! killer site. let me ask my question and then ill tell ya a bit abotu the project.what is the biggest tire/wheel you can fit under an 87 tbird{non tc- has no quad shocks} without minitubs? i have seen 10.5 meat on 10 inch rims on fox mustangs. i have been told the t bird isnt the same fox tho. from messuring the wheel well it doesnt look like a big hammer will make a 10 inch rim fit without any tire on it. can i atleast get away with an 8 inch rim with a 325/50 radial or something of that nature? the project is 521 ci bbf {250shot of n20} on my little sleepy bird:evilgrin: haha. body work leaves much to be desired. has no interior {make her as light as i can, hopfully under 3k with me} gunna be my little sleeper. looking for low 9's on a full spool with 4.10's {9'' read} and either a turbo 400 or a glide. ill get pictures up threwout the build. i have the bottem end, the block, heads and my 750$ tbird find. thanks for your time fellas. 87 tbird biggest wheel/tire combo Reply #1 – September 06, 2006, 08:46:01 PM i just recently swithed to 275/60/15's on the rear. and they seem to hook better then the 295/50/15's i used for years.. i was able to fit a tire like a 295/50/15 because i used a fox body mustang rearend.. it bolts up at the same points as the Tbird/Cougar. but the axle tubes are 3/4" shorter on each end.. and just so you know the T/bird/Cougar wheel wells are larger then mustang wheel wells.. and i used those tires on stock 15/7's and weld draglites 15/8'sand i'm going back to the stock rim soon with 275/60/15's mounted on the rears..i know meny people that owned fox body mustangs and 275/50/15's just fit and rub just a little on the outer QTR and to fit. 295/50'15's you have to beat the death out of the inner QTR to get them to fit. and will still rub a little.. check out http://www.coolcats.net/catjam/ and you should see more picks of my cougar with the tires i stated on my carand other cars with diffrent tire sizesNick Quote Selected

Tire Rack has them for $106. Also found some spoogeho 295s for $72. Only SR rated but I only intend them to get me through the winter. Quote Selected
