Re: looking to buy a cougar 3.8L need some info Reply #1 – December 04, 2004, 03:23:20 AM I don't know if that will work but I really doesn't sound like it would. An 87 3.8 is really a horrible motor. Trust me i have one. They make very little power and there are no aftermarket parts for them. If you want to do a turbo setup an entire 3.8 sc motor would probably be a better place to start. Quote Selected
Re: looking to buy a cougar 3.8L need some info Reply #2 – December 04, 2004, 03:32:33 AM There's one guy who used to be on this board who goes by the name "Spazzpuppies" who had sucessfully installed a stock SC motor into an '87 Cougar. He's the one who'll know about that swap. Quote Selected
Re: looking to buy a cougar 3.8L need some info Reply #3 – December 04, 2004, 09:50:53 AM what this guy is asking, is if SC pistons will go in the stock enginehonestly, its a bad idea, the 87 block is rather weak, the rods are very weak (look like something made by playskool), and the crank isnt very strong, the block is also a non-roller block, and the heads wouldnt allow much boost due to them not being revised like the SC'sif you want to go twin turbo, buy an SC engine, you wont need the intake manifold/blower assembly, use an intake manifold from an 88+ bird, or 94-98 mustang, and grab the fuel railfor the wiring and computer, thats where it gets tricky, id recommend using the 94-95 mustang wiring harness, and computer, since its still OBD1, and it shouldnt control the tranmission if i remember correctly, youll also need the fuel injectors and all the sensors from the same mustangits not an easy or cheap task, trust me, ive dont almost years of homework on this Quote Selected
Re: looking to buy a cougar 3.8L need some info Reply #4 – December 06, 2004, 09:58:43 PM Use an 88 or later motor. The Mustang supper charger system will work with very little mod.For aftermarket parts look at these locations.http://www.moranav6racing.com/http://www.supersixmotorsports.com/ Quote Selected
Re: looking to buy a cougar 3.8L need some info Reply #5 – December 06, 2004, 11:14:29 PM you could use the mustang supercharger, but you still have to remember, the early engines are still more pr0ne to failure as opposed to the later model stangs Quote Selected
