Timing question February 21, 2006, 09:45:23 PM Just contemplating moving my timing up to 12 or 14 degrees but Coolcats says that doing that requires 93 or higher octane fuel. There's one chain around here that carries 92 but mostly it's all 91 so that's what I intend to stick with. Is that too little to risk advancing the timing that high do you think? I'm sure most of you have tried this so I'd appreciate whatever insight you have. Quote Selected
Timing question Reply #1 – February 21, 2006, 10:44:11 PM advance it 2* at a time and listen for detonation..i ran 12* on 87 octane Quote Selected
Timing question Reply #3 – February 22, 2006, 07:57:04 AM i ran 13 in my 86 5.0 and it did just fine. i'd tease it and feed her some outlaw octane booster every fill up. Quote Selected
Timing question Reply #4 – February 26, 2006, 07:52:58 PM Anyone know the diameter for one of our 302 harmonic balancers? I have a sheet of timing tape for different diameters but I can't really measure it with the pulley attached. I may just compare all the diameter tapes to the timing marks and see which one lines up but it'd be nice to know in advance. Quote Selected
Timing question Reply #5 – February 27, 2006, 10:32:49 PM Nevermind I found it. For the record the typical balancer diameter for a 289-351 is 6.375" Quote Selected
