I do know that in my 84 T-bird  Turbo coupe I had the preimium aound and I've got 6 factory speakers. 2 in the dash,2 in the doors, 2 in the rear deck. Nope this isn't the JBL system. but I do have the factory amp switch and when  first go the car it all worked until I took it you for some real tunes.

I have an 84 Cougar GS.  I dont have premium sound. The Harnesses in my door dont work. I hooked some 6.5s up and they wouldnt work. Are there seperate connections in the harness behind the radio mount for the door speakers?

Cars that have a 6-speaker system usually piggyback the front dash and front door speakers together.

So what do I have to do then. Split them, or run new wiring?

either or both. They are just split from the factory.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.
