Scosche adapters

While I'm waiting to hear back from the Scosche support people, I figured I'd ask if any of you had any experiences with their adapters.. mainly the stuff that is supposed to convert RCA output on the head unit to the Premium Sound amp input plug. Due to my unexpected windfall yesterday, I was able to pick up a Pioneer MP3-CD head unit and still have enough money left to take care of some other significant things. I'd like to try to put it in without hacking anything up, as unlikely as that sounds with possible mounting problems staring me in the face. (even with the Scosche install kit) Re-wiring the car is not currently an option.

Anyway.. have any of you used this method? If so, are you happy with the results? I am hoping this will be acceptable to me (I am not demanding of high audio quality.. hell, on yesterday's trip the music came from a $34 portable TV with a $50-ish portable MP3-CD player plugged into it.. and even that was borderline acceptable except for the ignition whine and low volume. It's better than listening to a messed-up A/C blower for two hours) until I can afford to splurge on custom wiring and new speakers and all that  I'm nowhere near able to afford yet.

I used one in my Dads 89 T-bird. His was just a big box with two sets of plugs on it. One to plug into the radio the other into the harness.

The over all size of the one for his car was about a third of the size of the radio. It didn't sound half bad either. I was pleased with it.

I think I know what box you're talking about.. it's a translucent blue plastic, right? It's $17.77 at Wally-World. It's a possibility, but the one I Emailed Scosche about is an adapter that has no box, it just plugs from the RCA outputs right into the amp input/speaker plug. Won't even have to hack off the plug.

ed Circuit City.. told me I'd have to re-wire the entire car, and it would cost like $400-500 with everything involved. Went over to Wally-World and picked up a cheap Pioneer MP3 CD player, and now I'll figure out how to get it to work without re-wiring everything. Looks like it should be possible with maybe $30-40 worth of adapter harnesses and maybe a mounting kit.

Nope it was a black plastic box. You may try a true car stereo shop. One that specificly works on just car audio and alarms. That is where I got the one for my Dads bird. It had one small square plug to plug directly to the car harness the othe end got wire to the radio harness. I will try and find a pic of what I am talking about.

One more question is the Lincoln premium sound run the same way the T-bird/Cougar is?

OH, I see now.

I made one for my 88 Bird  :hick:  whan I went back 3 times to Best Buy trying to get mine to work. It only costs you a set of rca wire. You can pick those up anywhere and the harness adapter.

Hooray for Scosche.. I get an Email back today, and all they do is ask me to call them. Err, call? Like anything's going to be different on the phone vs. what I said in the Email?

Looks like I might have to hack up the amp plug and plug it into one of their little blue boxes that converts to RCA input or output.. if they either don't have the right product or are too lazy to tell me about it in Email.

Well, they are working fine, now that I found the right one.

$1250 car, $150 stereo. Maybe a few dollars more if I pick up a couple Pioneer 6 1/2" front speakers to go with the 6x9s I might take out of the T-bird and swap for what's in the Mark now. That's about all the money I intend to spend on stereo stuff, when there's so much I can do to the rest of the car.

I work just the oppisite... $7000+ in the car(over 8 years), $119 JVC single CD deck in the dash. And that was only after the tape decks on 3 stockers died.

this Premium Sound is just four speakers

I thought all the premiums had 6 speakers..... I would assume that the wiring is in place.  It was on my old LS with the base tape player and 4 speakers.

4 speakers for base Premium Sound in the Mark. I think the JBL system is 10 speakers or something outrageous like that, though.

Aha I gotcha.  Forgot the Marks had the JBL package as an option.  Do your doors have the wireing harnesses in place already or not.

For the JBL? I don't know. I suppose I'll find out when I replace the power window motor and have some time to poke around inside the doors.
