Faulty Oil Gauge/Signal in '87 Cougar

I've got the oil light on my dash that has an intermittent signal that sets an alarm off implying that my oil level or oil pressure is low. That being said I've checked both and determined it is a false alarm....what needs to be done to correct this warning light/alarm from going off?

If you are sure it's a false alarm, replace the oil pressure sending unit.

If it's beeping while you are sitting at a stop light with the brakes on, it probably is indicating low oil pressure. Common with older engines.

my 20th will periodically send audib le tones out to me ,,, this might happen one time in 9 months,,, it will stick around and worry me for a while then as quickly as it sows up, it goes away...... however since sitching to rotella 15w40, for diesel engines.. its never came back.

ive got about 250k miles now ,,, perhaps my screen on my pick as well as yours is a tad on the dirty side?

I had this for quite some time on a rebuilt motor with tolerances that were intentionally loose.  The chime is supposed to come on at or below 7 PSI.  I can tell you from personal experience that mine will chime at around 20 PSI.  Always has.

Here's what I did:  http://www.foxtbirdcougarforums.com/showthread.php?26435-NO-MORE-OIL-CHIME!!!!!one!!!!&highlight=

The resistor is a plastic block looking thing that mounts on the oil pressure sender between the sender and the wiring harness.
