I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

There you are wrong Eric, in the first MM&FF shootout they had an '87 Cougar and a turbo coupe and they loved them.  This article will never happen because you guys will just sit back and say "It aint going to happen, so I wont apply."  Well, if we all had that attitude towards this, and nobody applies, of course it wont happen, because there will be a lack of cars and general intrest.  Do you think they would have printed my letter AND made it LOTM If they DIDN'T plan to do the shoot out?

Guess I will have to apologize to MM&FF for wasting there time with the Idea, as hardly anybody with nice cars, seems to be seriously intrested in this.  I thought eric, will , ed and nick would at least jump at the chance, but guess I was wrong.

Blownbirds, send in your application at least.

Turbocoupe50, you are wrong as weel, (on the times to get in)  The last shoot out they had there were cars running 14's-17's  Hardly what youd consider fast.  of course they will pick the fastest and nicest, or oddest combos out there for the article, but man, before whining and saying shiznit like it wont happen, have faith and apply first.  No wonder nobody cares or knows about our cars.  "We" are to affraid to step up to the plate when the oppertunity arrives.

Oh well, hopefully some readers of the mag out there know somebody with a fast Bird/coug and they at least step up to the challenge.

Now I know everyone in this thread is not going to flame 1 WLD BRD for his post.  Yes its a little outgoing but I atleast see his point.  There are alot of crazy cool and crazy fast cars owned by board members here.  I mean c'mon they even throw pictures of old rangers and worn out lightnings in there drag race articles.  I'm sure they would like to look at something other than the usual parts cars (to us atleast) they always feature.

And Eric whats so normal about a Cougar convertible with 13" brakes and sidepipes?
There are ten times more 4cyl mustangs then 5.0's

Hell I never said "DON'T REGISTER"(I'm considering it). But after the Turbo Coupe vs Super Coupe shootout they had last year, I'm not holding much faith that anything above 13.5 can make the cut. For those of you that don't know the details... MM&FF dropped all the TCs as only one could muster a mid 13, they only published the SC cars and times....

...which I knew about, and is exactly why I made my comments.

Listen, if even COOL CATS guy sees something wrong with the way MM&FF does things when it pertains to our cars, don't you think maybe he knows a little something about the situation? Give me a little more credit, please. Everything any magazine does has a slant. It's obvious their slant is toward anything with a running pony emblem. I recognize that--not necessarily agreeing with it--and commented accordingly. Sorry if I call 'em as I see 'em.

I also never said, "DON'T REGISTER", did I? I think it's great if you want to do it. In fact, if you've got a fast Cat or 'Bird, go for it. I'll back you up, sponsor you, whatever. Just don't expect to see a white ragtop running down that track (see reasons below).

That, I can't say. They may be just testing the waters. Whether they're serious or not, only they know. I think it's great that you got press for both yourself and for our cars. Hopefully it will work out for everyone. But as you can see, everyone has a different angle on this situation, be it for better or worse. Again, I'm a realist and don't place much faith in them. I want to be wrong.

Nothing is 'normal' about the car at all. What MM&FF wants, though, is straight line speed. That's all they care about, not a show car in the background. My car is not built for the track, nor will it ever be. Besides, it's one of the slowest cars on this board. All it's good for is show. There have been Mustangs featured in MM&FF's articles that are some of the worst "show" cars I've seen in a long time. Yet they get printed. Why? There's a pony emblem on it. I could probably work on my car every day for the next 20 years and not get a second look from that magazine. Whatever, I'm not out seeking glory and I'm not out to kiss anyone's ass. If they want my car in their rag, they'll contact me. I'm not going to seek them out. Far as I'm concerned, my trophy is in my garage. I have to prove absolutely nothing to anyone. While it would be nice to get some recognition every now and then (aside from my two brief moments of glory from Ask Bernie/Yo Ken), I'm not making it my life's goal or anything. Me running down the track and clicking off that whopping high-14 second time isn't going to blaze trails for our cars, now is it? I'd much rather let others with faster cars speak for our kind.

I was on of the TC's that was dropped in the TC vs. SC shootout.  I ran a 13.28 and only 2 SC's beat me but I was still dropped because all the other TC's ran in the 16's becasue of the heat(110+ track temp).

Like turbocoupe50 mentioned.  This is a hush hush thing.  No cameras or video cameras allowed.  More SC's showed up than were invited and they almost called the event before it started.  They will monitor the boards and look for info leaks from the shootout.  It will be during a weekday on a closed track.  For those worried about racing and then not having the article happen.  They pay to rent the whole track.  Unless the cars are dog ass slow they will not drop the article unless we make it happen.

I sent in my entry.  I hope to be selected.

WLDBRD is 100% correct. Basically TBirs/Cougars are just longer versions of Mustangs so I say you guys should go for it. I would bring mine but it still has the V6 in it. Is this only for TC's? Or is it for any 84-88 TBird/Cougar? I hope so cause most TC's are not that fast compared to SC's but a respectable for what they have for the weight the have to push.

Oh yeah does anyone know when this will happen? If it is a couple of months from now then maybe I will have the bird with the V8 in it. I am about 3 hours away from E-Town so I wll try to make it.

This is for all the 83-88 t-birds.

There are only a couple TC's that run in the 12's because most people building fast 2.3 turbos don't bother with a TC and just put the engine in a POS stang.

Not as fast as some of the SC's but a hell of a lot cheaper to mod.

Basically you send in your entry and they will contact you about being selected.  They then will notify you about 2 weeks prior to the event as to when it will be held.

Maybe I'm wrong, but all I hear you guys talking about are TCs and SCs.  If I read right, this is open to all motors, so there will be quite a competition not just from the SCs, but from the 5.0 and 4.6L V8's of the day.  I'm not a big fan of the mag, and I'm just a noob when it comes to these cars, but if this actually happens and gets published I will be buying the issue for sure.  I wish you all good luck, as I don't even own a 'bird or cat.  Not yet anyway.
