dying interior panels?

Has anybody had any luck with this? i recieved a couple blue door panels from Jerry (thanks again). Now i need to make them medium canyon red. Does anybody know what products to use?

I'm kind of at a loss. I called the local upholstry guy and he said his dyes would bleed threw..

thanks,

Chris

When I redid the headliner in the Scorpio, I also dyed some of the grey parts black.  I used the SEM stuff and it worked great.

Clean the parts, use the proper prep/primer for what you're dyeing, and it will turn out fine.

You can find the SEM stuff online, or even @ Eastwood.

thats what the upholstry guy told me, I'm gonna try that route, i was just worried about going from a dark blue to a medium canyon red. as for the carpet on the door panel, im not sure what im going to do yet.

I bought some red vinyl interior paint that covered black pretty good. Took about 3-4 coats, but covered it all. the panel on my vert (Drivers side) was dyed. you can see a faint trace of gray showing through on a section of the carpeted section. (probably worn off from shoes rubbing on it down there. It might have been SEM. I'll see if i can find the can, but the color was a bit to dark for my 87's interior.

hey guys! finally got my paint to do this!

Just wondering, what i got to do to get this going.

I know i gotta clean the panels with acetone.

i have a can of vinyl prep. the color i need. and a can of adhesion promoter.

Not sure if i need the adhesion promoter. but i figured i'd pick it up just in case.

anyone got a process of doing this?

tried searchin, couldn't find much.

Thanks,
Chris

decided to man up and figure it out myself haha. wiped the panels down with acetone, (as told by a local interior guy.) then used the vinyl prep/ cleaner and med. canyon red. from latemodelresto. i like the results. not perfect. but good enough for me. especially knowing that i did them myself.

The carpet im going to be painting black to match the other black accents in my car.
