Power outlets May 26, 2009, 04:16:00 AM The single cigarette lighter isnt going to cut it much longer. What I want to do is hook up at least 2 more to be used for power outlets. My questions are about how should I wire them?I will be using them mostly for my phone charger, FM transmitter, and iPod charger. Eventually a navigation too.Where should I wire from? Assuming I could use some empty slots in the fuse panel. Would running all of these cause any issues? Going for factory installed look so I am mounting them out the side of the console. Not sure where yet though. Was thinking at the front where it slides under the dash but clearance might be an issue. I know I could just go buy one of those 3 to 1 adapters but I dont like the way they look or the extra room they take up. Quote Selected
Power outlets Reply #1 – May 26, 2009, 04:59:52 AM I would just put in my own wiring with inline fuses near the battery if it were me. If your not too tall our bigger around, you could put them behing where the ash tray goes by your knee. If you don't have an eq or anything you could make a plate and mount them where the little cubby hole thing goes in the radio slot thingy. Not the best visual, but I can't sleep tonight. Power outlets Reply #2 – May 26, 2009, 10:07:22 AM Why not just get a couple of those power outlets instead of using cig lighters?I want to add one to the TBird and I need to relocate/remove the cig lighter in the Scorpio. The outlets would look cleaner as they have a cover, etc. Quote Selected

I use my cubby thing but I could remove the idiot light panel since it isnt wired up. I just dont think I would like the look of it. I got what you were saying. Sleep is over-rated anyways.Quote from: Chuck W;274412Why not just get a couple of those power outlets instead of using cig lighters?I want to add one to the TBird and I need to relocate/remove the cig lighter in the Scorpio. I was under the impression they were the same thing, one just came with a lighter and the other with a cover. Are they different and what is the wiring like? Quote Selected
Power outlets Reply #4 – May 26, 2009, 11:11:35 AM There is a difference in them. The Lighter style is a full metal job and works the lighter. Then the power outlet ones aren't made the same. They normally have plastic down inside the hole and are not made to work with the lighters, but work great for the power accessories. As far as wiring they should be the same. Stuckman Quote Selected
