flywheel nuts

i guess this is the best place to put this thread. we need a 'stupid question' category cus this fits in perfectly there.

how do you remove the flexplate/torque coverter bolts on an engine with no top end? everytime i try to put any torque on them it just turns the whole engine over.

You could try holding the front crank bolt ,but it might just break it loose.

remove starter
use a socket / extention / breaker bar on the crank bolt and put it in a bind againt the frame/near by bracket or floor.
line up nut and remove
rotate crank to new nut
repeat.

btw, its much easier if your spark plugs are out.

Tis what I did. Worked beautifully.

Get a friend to stick the flat end of a crow bar or tire iron in between the teeth on the flywheel and have at it.

I got them loose on the engine in the '80 by myself.  I just wedged something against the flexplate teeth and had at it.

if its in a stand, a big block of wood worked for me wedged it against the flywheel and stand and pounded it under. got them out no problem after that!
