Going to the track for the first time this year.

First time for the bird ever being down the 1320 too.  Hoping for at least a low 14 and still making it home under its own power.

I know the bearings are starting to rattle, but I pounded my white stang with a weak bottom end and it never broke so this one should be the same.:hick:  I will just keep the shift points at 5,500rpm and hope for the best.

lets see who can guess closest to the time it will run, and I will update when I get back tonight.

I am guessing a 14.2 @ 99mph

haven't blown it yet, but yeah it was a weak motor to begin with Had 240kms on it when I dropped it in.  still runs great though, and doesn't use any fluid.

there is one problem I am having though, it seems to fall on its face when you stand on the gas.  almost actuing like it is starving for fuel.

Managed a best of 14.79 @ 93mph, which was my first pass of the night.  on the second run I hit something on the track and blew a tire.  got four runs in, and only lost once.  plus I drove home, so that is a good start.  once I figure out this problem I know it will run a 14.0 or better.  got some cool videos of the runs from the back seat too.

Here is all the runs:
R/T.......  .450..........  .196............    .409............    .456
60'.......  2.212.........  2.394.........    2.285...........    2.357
330......  6.200.........  6.447.........    6.000...........  6.432
1/8.......  9.530..........  9.918.........    9.614..........    9.882
MPH......  74.60..........  70.21.........    72.61...........  70.57
1000'....  12.368......... 12.827........  12.453..........  12.793
1/4.......  14.794.......  15.304.........  14.878..........  15.260
MPH......  92.98.........  91.08.........    93.02..........    91.47

I think you're being a little optimistic with what you think it will run...a 14.2@99??? I could have told you that it would have been mid-14's at best...and once you find your problem, I still say it runs mid-14's.  I had a similar problem at one point but only came on at 4k rpm like a real nasty miss.....plugs, wires, cap+rotor, coil didn't fix it....strangely enough an MSD coil remedied the problem...shortly after my fuel pump failed and when I pulled it out, the strainer(aka-sock) was laying at the bottom of the tank....I'm assuming that was the problem...possibly causing a lean miss at higher rpm...since a lean mixture takes more voltage to fire, I'm thinking that's why the MSD coil "fixed"(read: band-aided) the problem.

BTW, what gears do you have in the car?

I think I might drop the tank (again) tomorrow and check the sock.  As for what it'll run, we'll see.  I know it is faster then my stang and it ran 14.3's.

Thanks Aerobird.

For the first two runs I was running 225/60/15's, then after a tire blew during the second run, (hit something at the end of the track) I switched back to the stock 215/70/14's.

This was against a brand new Jetta, with a fart cannon.:flip:
