A FWD block will not bolt into a RWD application without major surgery.  Im pretty sure the oil pan will not clear the crossmember, there isnt a oil pan that will bolt on, so you are going to have to fab one.  Go to the SHO boards, this topic has been beat to death, I think there is one known RWD SHO running around and that was a couple years and alot of money in the making.

There are more than that.

There are at least 2 Merkur XR4's with SHOs in them on the east coast.

...

And sooner or later there will be one in a T-Bird in IN :hick:

I had always thought the Cologne and Vulcan engines were related and shared a bellhousing pattern. In fact, I had thought the 4-cyl had the same bellhousing bolt pattern too (but found out otherwise when I was considering a 2.3t Ranger). Learn something new every day...

I have all 3 sitting in my garage.  The Cologne/2.3 are close, but not quite...and the starters are on different sides of the engine...  The Vulcan is nothing like the others.

My big issue on the SHO swap right now is room.....I can get the SHO and the T-5 together, but need to get them mocked up in something.....and just don't have the room at the moment to do it.

I havent been a regular on the SHO boards for over 4 years.  The SHO was a great concept and a good effort, but its just to finicky for a DD for me.

I found out the hard way on the tranny differences with my 90 2.9L w/5spd Ranger 4X4. I had been given a 3.0L w/5spd from a 91 Ranger to put into my p/u. The problem was, the 3.0L/5spd was a 2wheel drive. In my hurry to get the truck up and running, I tried to install the 3.0 without double checking myself and ended up trading the 3.0 combo for another 2.9L engine. Now I just need to get another 4X4 trany to replace mine that has gone south. Rather hard to find a good Mazda 5spd.

Sorry for the hi-jack

yeah, putting a turbo 4 seems less common than throwing a v8 in it. Hopes all goes well.

I plan on doing a 4.0 transplant and 5 speed manual swap hopefully this summer, along with a d35 and an 8" rear. But depends on the money.

Was going to do a v8 swap (Reason for the Cougar purchase) but decide not to.

There are quite a few 2.3T running around at RPS. I'm planning on swapping my 2.0 out for one.

id love to do the swap, if my mom would let me get the truck, i want a sleeper, no one around my house has anything with real balls, so after a few mods, that truck would MOVE, she gave me a choice, drivers ed, or truck its a hard choice
