Cold air intake 5.o May 08, 2005, 12:35:10 PM What all would i have to do in prep for a cold air intake on my 5.o. Quote Selected
Re: Cold air intake 5.o Reply #1 – May 08, 2005, 01:28:49 PM Do you want to get one like I have? Prep work that needs to be done is to take all the black plastic that's inside the fender out and obviously remove your original air box and air inlet tube. Nothing really difficult about it. Re: Cold air intake 5.o Reply #2 – May 08, 2005, 01:48:04 PM so no maf or any sensor replacements? and yes that looks awesome where did you get the tubing and stuff. Local auto zone or murrays, thank you Quote Selected
Re: Cold air intake 5.o Reply #3 – May 08, 2005, 02:28:39 PM you can buy em off of ebay pretty cheap, but the only problem is they arnt for non-MAF cars, at that point, you can just stick a MAF in there, and not have if function Quote Selected
Re: Cold air intake 5.o Reply #4 – May 08, 2005, 02:31:43 PM I did the mass air conversion on my car so I got the kit that was made for a mass air car. They have the kit for speed density set ups as well. If you left your car speed density and put the speed density kit in, it would be a piece of cake. No sensors or anything like that need to change.Mine is a MAC that I bought from Speed UnlimitedFor some reason though the when you click on the MAC, K&N, and March kits nothing comes up. Autozone sometimes carries the K&N kits but they are way more expensive and they don't look as cool as the MAC's (IMO). BBK makes them as well and you can get them also from Summit or Jeg's.So here's what you want: for speed density - - get one for an 86 to 88 mustang for mass air - - - - - get one for an 89 to 93 mustangYou also have your choice if you want a fender mounted filter or not. Fender Mount (what I have) Non-Fender Mount Quote Selected

Re: Cold air intake 5.o Reply #6 – May 08, 2005, 03:39:18 PM Ok thanks very much on clearing that up. Victory picture....(is there any hp advantage to the mass air conversion?)Like i said not much of a victory but it was for me that was a pain coming out... Infact i tried retreiving this about a year ago and i am now very happy its out Quote Selected
Re: Cold air intake 5.o Reply #7 – May 08, 2005, 03:49:02 PM Good work. Mine was a bit of a pain to come out. I actually broke my curb light in the process(woops  ). The mass air conversion should be used if you have an HO setup.Quote from Cool Cats tech on maf conversion"For Converted or Transplanted 5.0 HO Speed Density CougarsThis section is for converted or transplanted 1987-88 HO 5.0 motors ONLY. It is not intended for the stock Cougar/Thunderbird 5.0 motor. Any attempt to convert a stock non-HO motor to mass air can result in serious damage to the engine."If you had an HO, the maf conversion would allow you to make as many modifications as you wanted. So it doesn't give you more horsepower, it just reads the air better allowing for major mods. The mods you do is what gives you more power. Quote Selected

Re: Cold air intake 5.o Reply #10 – May 26, 2005, 01:19:52 AM hey do them pipes soak up alot of heat from the headers? I was going to replace my rubber one from the ma meter to the tb... was wondering how hot the tube got Quote Selected
Re: Cold air intake 5.o Reply #11 – May 26, 2005, 02:45:40 PM Just a little warm, but what is under the hood that won't gain a little heat. It's far enough away from the headers that it doesn't get hot. Quote Selected
Re: Cold air intake 5.o Reply #12 – May 26, 2005, 11:27:35 PM mines still cool to the touch, at the very most it gets slightly warm. and if i ever end up getting header wrap, its probley going to be actualy cold air intake lol. Quote Selected
