1985 Ford Thunderbird 302/5 speed May 07, 2019, 05:44:45 PM New member here selling my 1985 Tbird. Gonna keep this short and sweet, list the pros and cons as well as parts into it. ill let the pics speak for themselves and please if you have any questions just ask. I bought this with a roller 302 and t5 swap already done sometime ago, previous owner did not know anything about the miles on motor but when i swapped the heads there were still cross hatches on the cylinder walls and motor was very clean inside throughout. Interior is complete and in very good condition. Everything works, besides the A/C (deleted) and heater core leaks (bypassed). Body has dings and dents and surface rust along the edges, most severe spot are drivers side in the door jam and quarter panel. Trunk has a hole but not too bad. Floors, rockers, framerails are solid. Here is what I have done to the car.....Engine: Ported GT40P heads w/ 1.9 1.6 stainless valves/heavy duty springsB303 camFord racing double roller timing chainHardened pushrodsCarter hipo fuel pumpOil pump/ oil panHolley 670 street carbHolley single plane intake Pertronix flamethrower dist w/ rev limiter settingNew plugs/wiresEngine completey resealed top to bottomAluminum radiatorTransmission: Tremec 3550 Lakewood blowproof bellhousingSpec 3 clutch/ pressure plateFord racing billet steel flywheelStifflers trans crossmember Rearend:Mustang 8.8 with new:FRPP 3.73 ring and pinionFRPP Traction lockYukon axles New bearings and sealsCHE performance tubular adjustable upper control armsCHE performance tubular lower control armsExhaust:Mac equal length shorty headersBBK xpipeFlowmaster 44s The car runs and drives good. Re: 1985 Ford Thunderbird 302/5 speed Reply #6 – May 10, 2019, 03:09:34 PM Does run pretty quick for what it is. It was outside for awhile before i "rescued" it. Hopefully someone will pick it up and finish it. Hate to sell it but its for the best. Thanks. Quote Selected
Re: 1985 Ford Thunderbird 302/5 speed Reply #7 – May 11, 2019, 10:49:22 AM Did this car start life as a Turbo Coupe? If it didn't, the manual shift conversion looks perfect, buttstuffog gauges and all. Even still has the factory 2-post dial radio. Good luck. Quote Selected
Re: 1985 Ford Thunderbird 302/5 speed Reply #8 – May 11, 2019, 06:17:51 PM vin says it was a 5.0 auto, so im guessing someone grabbed parts off a turbo coupe. Tach is off, reads double than its suppose to, I need to swap out the resistors in the dash. Yes, the radio does work great, other needing some speakers it plays the aerosmith cassette tape i have in there perfect. Even the clock keeps perfect time! Quote Selected
Re: 1985 Ford Thunderbird 302/5 speed Reply #9 – May 13, 2019, 10:50:40 AM You could really mess with somebody on the tach thing. Tell them you've got the highest-winding, smoothest, most balanced 5.0 ever made. Ask them what other car cruises at 70mph at 4500 to 5000 and is so quiet? Quote Selected
