Electrical Issue on my 1983 Bird

Changed the battery and either as a result or by coincidence the headlight switch is working but only main headlights.  The 15amp fuse keeps blowing as soon as you place it in the fuse holder.  Any thoughts?  My gut feeling tells me its not the headlight switch, but i am open to all thoughts.  The car is a 77K mile very original and well maintained survivor.  None of the wiring is cut or hacked anywhere in this car.

This is the fuse thats tripping.

Check the condition of the brake light switch, under the dash at the brake pedal. Most of mine have been melted on my cars.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

If you have autolamp feature, you will have a small connector along with the big connector on the headlight switch. Unplugging the small connector will take the autolamp stuff out of the picture.
Otherwise the with the headlight switch off, the fuse 4 circuit ends at the headlight switch.

That's a weird one. Seem like a coincidence but I think I'd check the headlight switch first.
