Whats used to plug smog hole on 88 heads

Well, we removed the smog tube and hardware for our build and just wondered what's being used to plug the holes up. Mine happens to have 2, one in each head at the rear edges. Looks like a small ovalish plate with a hole drill for lock down bolt and maybe throw in the gaskets that were supplied in the gasket kit to make the seal.
Maybe a bolt with a head thread tapping? What size tap would be best to use? Would a brass plug or stainless steel be best?

As for the size of whatever you'd need...no idea.

On my HO that was in the Tbird I had, I simply cut off the heads of two carriage bolts, stuck them into the thermactor holes, took the crossover pipe and cut each end off, globbed the hole on each piece with a big dose of permatex, and then bolted the pieces down in the proper place. Redneck as hell, but it worked for me. Not like it was a show engine..just a worn out, 150K mile HO that smokes on starts and when you lift off the gas. Needs rebuilt, so I wasn't spending much on it.

cheap. take the crossover tubes off cut them apart and flip the ends over re install.

The threads specs: Outer threads measure 5/8x11

Later heads just had a 5/8" coarse threaded hole. So tapping and threading them to that size should work fine, along with some short 5/8" bolts with a bit of exhaust sealer smeared on.
