Mustang driveshadt????? Reply #20 – January 27, 2013, 10:31:39 AM The '90s Aerostars used a alum D/S similar to the C/V... I've sprayed mine with a 150Hp shot and it hung together, stock except for solid Lakewood U/V joints... Quote Selected
Mustang driveshadt????? Reply #21 – January 27, 2013, 01:07:50 PM Quote from: slowbird;408108My problem is I have tye stock one in the car, I drive the car to the track n wanna not have to worry. I plan on spraying the car hard out the hole so wanna no its not gonna break. Just for the record i have put hundreds of HP through a stock shaft with no issues at all. And yes i run aluminum shafts. But i have often asked myself WHY. Is it really worth the money and what for. A steel shafts works just fine set up correctly and balanced. Either way a custom shaft is in your future. They are relatively cheap all things considered. As far as i know a shaft can not be lengthened. Not successfully. just saying for what it would cost and the time involved it would not pay!!BY the way Carbon shafts are the new THING!!!!I know the shaft is lighter and easier to spin. I also know about the inertia losses of steel V Aluminum/Carbon. I ordered a Carbon shaft for the Midnighter. NOT CHEAP BY NO MEANS. But it is much better than Aluminum which i personally think they SUCK. Some are to thick!!!Carbon shafts are thinner to handle the same torque capacity as the aluminum .Carbon shafts have more clearance and requires less modification than aluminum. Aluminum shafts are normally thicker just saying. Then again my Anniversary Camaro came with an aluminum shaft right from the General Himself. Quote Selected

Car is a "BUDGET BUILD" rather spend $$$ on better heads ,etc if i could in the near future. Quote Selected

Mustang driveshadt????? Reply #24 – January 27, 2013, 07:02:18 PM I bought 2 aluminum Crown Vic shafts from a local place that dismantles the police cars. Got them for $35 each. My local driveline shop will size them for $125. I haven't got around to getting it done yet. I'm going to put one in my TC driver and one in my 87 TC footbrake project with a 550 h.p. 358 windsor. I've talked to plenty of people about the durability. They can take some big h.p. numbers. Anytime you can reduce rotating weight, you are getting more power to the ground. Quote Selected

Mustang driveshadt????? Reply #27 – January 27, 2013, 11:07:17 PM Yep. The taxis and cop cars were basically the same car as far as suspension and drivetrain. Many Taxis even had the Police pursuit badge on them. Quote Selected
Mustang driveshadt????? Reply #28 – January 27, 2013, 11:48:56 PM There is no spacer that will make a stang driveshaft fit a Tbird. The Crown Vic PI shaft is a full 3" dia, the Aerostar is 2.5, but if you get one from an AWD Aero, it will be Mustang length.Just go with a CVPI shaft, have it cut down, and use the Tbird yokes, or else you'll have to get the hybrid u joints.I wouldn't pay over 200 bucks to have it done....and if a shop says it can't be done, I'd move on to someone who can. Because there are tons of Stangs with aluminum shafts, and we all know they didn't come that way factory lol.OP, all your questions have been answered, just search a bit, and you'll find the info you seek.
