Reply #30 – May 29, 2012, 07:18:27 AM I know in the 1980's the Chevy 305 and some 350's were popular for the puff of blue smoke at startup due to brittle valve seals, higher the mileage/worse they got as also the 1992-1995/96 Ford 4.6 modular motors like to use oil because of valve seals. Chevy's were an easy fix, the mod motors quite more extensive but still better than pulling the pistons and new rings etc.Like Tom said they are getting along much better with the technology to upgrade materials in those older motors.
