Pulling the AOD

Pulling it out tomorrow and getting a guy to rebuild it for me. I thought of a Lentech AOD but this guy is ging to put extra clutches in it and better lube passages and set it up better than a Lentech. Cheaper too. So I cant wait till it is done then I can go to dyno and set up my 351w to idle and not eat fuel.

Oh and I am installing my TC rear diff with 3:73 gears and the prop valve with the brake lines so as to make the installation easy. I hope.

I am fabricating a dual exhaust for my stock (semi-H.O.) 5.0 with AOD. The RH half of a BBK O/R H-pipe fits perfectly except it is 2 1/2" and I will be using 2" with my cast iron manifolds. I am contemplating how to best route the LH pipe thru the two-hump crossmember at the transmission mount. I suspect the shifter linkage is different on cars that were built with duals (Mustangs & maybe some Cougars?) but the factory stuck the shifter cable right where my pipe needs to run. Do you have a photo of the transmission cable and arm on your car where the left pipe passes by? I sure would like a peek.

86caprirs what converter are you going to run? I'm running a 2800 rpm stall PI Stallion non-lockup converter and I love it. Instant power and instant go when you push the pedal :burnout:.

i have shorty headers and a h pipe on my 87 5.0 tbird and i didnt have issues. if you can just let it hang lower and maybe indent the pipe a bit around the linkage or put header wrap on it if its close to the cable and your worried about it melting i dont have anything on mine

The guy building it says a 3000 stall for the street. I think it is a non locking too.

I am actually using a 95 Mustang x pipe built by unknown. Fits great and it is in 3 pieces. I have a double hump crossmember from factory. I did bent the  bracket for the shifter. But I may cut and weld it to fit better since I have the trans out.

So do the 88 T-bird/cougar have lockup converters. My gas milage sucks now after replacing my tranny. I wonder if my converter is non-lockup. I went from 18-20 mpg to 13 mpg. I didnt notice if it started going down right after the tranny swap. I got the tranny from a friend, it was rebuilt and had a new converter so I used it.

I'll reseach more. That sucks. Now I might need a new converter too. It least I'll have the motor out.
