Like most people, I dislike F-bodies.  Its quite ironic that in 1998 when they got the LS1 that sales slipped another 40%. 

GM sure knows how to make , but their powertrain division definitely got it right. There's a reason the Mustang is still around, its a better package.

My brother has 1,500 miles on his '97 WS6 Ram Air T/A 6-speed. That's fifteen hundred miles. The A-pillar covers shake to any road imperfection, and the fender had to be realigned twice since owning the car new. When you bought an F-body, you bought it for the drivetrain and looks, not the quality. ;)

Not that the Mustang was much better. Headlight switches overloading, ash tray lids breaking, and so on...thus is the legacy of the Fox cars. However, in 1989 you could get a bone-stock Mustang 5.0 LX 5-speed coupe, crank up windows, no a/c, no power anything, for $11G and kick the  out of most anything on the road. THAT is a value, and the reason why they sold so well. The fact that the 302 was so tried and true, durable and seasoned made it one formidable motor. And Ford has, and always will, use better plastics and interior materials than comparable GM cars. As Jeeves said, the Mustang was a better package overall.

I love the F-bodies...always have. I remember being very young, travelling with my parents in the car, and my brother and I would look out our respective windows to count the Firebirds we saw--and there were a lot of them back then. My brother now owns 3 of them: the '97 mentioned above, a 1980 T/A 301 4-speed (transplanted), and a '73 T/A 455 (not the Super Duty but still a beast). They might have been small inside and had cheaper components, but they still look ed awesome today.

Oh, BTW...we never counted Camaros. Even at ages 5 and 7 we knew they sucked. ;)

6 speed manual.  I almost bought a 1996 Firebird right before I bought this Cougar I have now.  LT1 motor, auto, red, 6K, some exhaust mods, 3.73's.  That was in late 97 when I was 21.  Insurance was WAY TOO HIGH!  Glad I went with the Cougar :D

Well 374hp and 380 tork out of 347inchs is not bad.
I have seen 347s make even more but then there not street able.

What i find sad about people spending money to make a 347 when a 351 can be built for less and make more power.

My 351 put 360hp and 399 tork to the wheels on a dyno jet :)
I will be hitting dyno again to se how it goes on the bottle.

Drove a brand new 2000 Camaro SS back in the day. 10mi on the clock. So new it still had plastic on the seats, plastic cover over the antenna threads, and a made in Canada sticker on the windshield.  :canada:

Dirt in the paint, some rattle in the dash, and the T roofs squeaked away like mad.  Gawd that car was fast and handled nice, but it was a turd!.

Um....my bro's T/A still has the plastic on the carpeting. :D
He also has the original floormats in the box, and bought another set to use. The a/c and heater have never been used...neither has the rear defroster. The only reason the seats don't have plastic on them is because the owner of the dealership where my brother bought the car insisted on driving it home for a few nights. That dude removed the plastic; otherwise they'd still be on there, I'm sure.

But yeah, his T-tops squeak too. Must be one of those unadvertised options or something. ;)

You said it Eric, when you buy an Fbody it is for the drivetrain, not the quality of the chasis lol. My friends 98 SS ride quality is rough as hell, but  it'll move. I like the body lines of the WS6 firebirds, I just think they are shagy, but I am in no way glorifying the quality of the cars, I just like the LS1/M6(or T56 lol) combination. I wish Ford made an OHV V8 still with the innovation of the LS1 engine. *dreams* I guess the Cobra 4v mod motor isnt too bad in blown form. Id like to get an 03-04 Cobra, I just cant see myself driving a GM product.

yeah, it would be nice if mainstream Ford put out a runner that could at least keep up with any of the chevy performance cars. the 05 mustang gt moves i guess but i dont think it would hold a candle to the 98 ss i drove. its always been left to the SVT to git er done.

the lingenfelter chevy stuff is nothing to sneeze at
