Red stripe around 87 Turb coupe is dull

How would you bring back to life the red stripe around the TC, mine is looking dull.

Try a bit of polishing compound first, but in all likelihood you won't be able to bring it back. My plan is to pick up a roll of high quality 1/2 stripe and cover it.

Demon-you are the man. Has anybody actually bought the red molding from these people? Please post up some pics if you did and let us know how it was compared to the factory molding.

Thanks

Ken

I wet sanded with 1000 grit and it worked very well. If it makes you leery, you can use most metal polishes and it works decently.

Here is the rest of the story,, and no, I decided very recently that the resource does not sell a flat top surface molding.  a easier solution is here..........http://www.foxtbirdcougarforums.com/showthread.php?t=24744

options out there today have a more rounded top edge with widths that may not fit like oem. anyway, enough babble here, read the link above.

Has anyone tried some 1/2" chrome tape for those of us with chrome moldings?

In my original post , i pointed out some things i discovered about chrome molding.

my gold molding is not gold.  they added a gold paint to the inside of the plastic cover that attaches over top of a chrome covered molding.

the chrome molding guys have a simple adhesive clear cover.  The next time I have to deal with the chrome world, I will remove the clear plastic cover to expose the shiny chrome under there.  Next I would use some high quality clear packing tape and cover the chrome.  that would fix the problem for many more years.

I dont know if you can get chrome tape in anything but aluminum adhesive rolls like at lows in the plumbing section or as in heat tape.  That stuff tends to deform and krinkle when you undo it.
You could add chrome painted electrical tape but peeling off the laminate cover would be better,,,maybe,, dono really since i have not completely removed the clear laminate.
