Smog pump delete belt length Reply #32 – March 14, 2009, 01:59:58 AM Quote from: DVP;261289Ok since you are the perfect candidate to experiment with this I have an idea. On Jcassity's thread he discussed placing the tensioner on the belt that leaves the WP to the ALT.It is very tight as is but if you place the tensioner on that part of the belt and run it as the the green model with the 77" I used it might work. You will probably have to alter the stops.I am going to draw this up real quickIt looks like there will be a problem with the belt clearing the top of the tensioner pulley, BUT the pulley in the pic is not fully extended. I am sure there will need to be some ginding like Jcassity did only on the lower stop. I think you *might* clear the WP with about 2 inches of clearance. Also another option would be a smaller tensioner pulley. FordTruckFreak, if you could please try this for me I would really appreciate it.You Have no AC on your pic and that makes a world of difference. Get the idler up over the other side of the belt, after you modify the tensioner so it has more CCW motion and it might work. In my diy link or here>http://www.foxtbirdcougarforums.com/showthread.php?t=17236&page=2you will see where i explained what i did. 77 works perfect. Your pic has the belt on the wrong side of the idler. I have my belt routed as per the green diagram. Quote Selected

But no matter what, the fan wasn't designed to fit the radiator and no matter what I did it still looked bad. Quote Selected

Smog pump delete belt length Reply #39 – July 12, 2009, 08:49:29 AM Looking at the routings; I noticed something. You can run the smog pump & A/C delete (purple) with the same routing as the A/C in place with no smog pump (blue). You'll need a bigger belt though....*EDIT* 76 inches works.....You could most likely get a 75.5" to work as well, but a 75" aint gonna happen.....It actually has less tension, but is within limits and the belt has much more clearance. Smog pump delete belt length Reply #40 – October 06, 2009, 08:59:26 PM I did this today with a 1985 LTD 5.0 HO, ex-police car. I just purchased this car for $400 on a street near my house. I found a local guy that was selling the AC delete pulley (stock AC no longer worked) and when I put this on the stock belt was a hair too long. I thought if I was to buy a new belt I might as well by-pass the smog pump as well. I ended up with a 850K6 (they did not have a 845) and it seems to work great with the purple route. Thanks for the info guys this will make it a lot easier to change out the plugs and work on the engine. Now I need to find a fan shroud.TED Quote Selected

It provided the best belt wrap on the most accessories.I used the above purple routing and used a Napa belt 6k860, which is a overall length of 86.4 inches. I tried a shorter 6k854, but it was too short. I had a little smaller alternator pulley and the 862 would have been too long. Just adding to the thread. All other pulleys were stock. Quote Selected
Smog pump delete belt length Reply #43 – April 20, 2010, 06:26:07 PM This is great, but has anyone done this on a 3.8? (1988 specific)? I figured out my belt length, put it on, and then i realized I was running my water pump backwards!!!!! So now, I cannot figure out how to run the belt without causing it to run the opposite direction, and have to take the belt back and put the pump back on unless somebody knows the solution. Please help!!!! I'll put up pics when i get home Quote Selected
Smog pump delete belt length Reply #44 – April 20, 2010, 06:41:32 PM I haven't, try measuring the way you need with a rope, It will get you close. Start a new thread for yours. If it's running backwards, you missed something, Quote Selected
