The first link doesn't work for me, but the second one does. I've never driven one of those new birds, so I don't know if I'd want one or not. I do like the looks of most of them, some are better than others. Color really plays a big role. The one in the second link looks pretty sharp to me.

I'd just get a cheap used jag... Maybe throw thunderbird rims on it.

My dad has an '05 T-Bird. We were considering XK8's at one point but we were told that the engine became costly to maintain. As far as driving the T-Birds goes, to me they feel confining with the top up but they're great with the top down. The only real gripe I have is that the vast majority have an all-black interior, which is one reason I really like the second one I linked.

The XK8's engine has a larger displacement of 4.2L instead of 3.9L in your dad's T-bird, but otherwise it is essentially the same engine.
I don't know if the Jag's have the same coil issues as the Ford version does, but that is the only issue that I know of.

My 2004 Lincoln LS with the 3.9L has had 4 of it's coils replaced under warranty and it has about 43k miles on it. Ford has acknowledged that there is a coil failure problem and as such has extended the warranty on them to 100k miles.

Whether it be the T-Bird or the Jag, I wouldn't let a small road trip of 134 miles get in the way of getting what you really want.

Only issue with the 04 here has been after storing all winter the battery will be dead. Knock on wood no coil issues as of yet. Personal opinion, car looks very sharp with hardtop on, just watch your blind spots. Its a fun car to drive but it is small.
