I looked at this a few yaers ago. The FI 460 has what looks like a carbed intake with injector bungs added in. I was told that the intake only bolts to those FI heads and no aftermarket head can be supported, so if that is the case then stock is the only way to go. Use an Edelbrock intake elbow and adapt the 5.0 TB to the intake and viola all linkage and harness connecters are supported. If you can some how use a good set of heads the thing would be brutal. As far as the tranny. Stick with the AOD. JW ultabell and I think Lentech make a bell housing to use it behind the BBF. This swap would be simple, get decent milage and could haul ass if set up properly. Use a turbo and the heads don't matter......Food for thought.

AOD behind a 460? They can hold up to that?

Correct, the EFI heads and intake are not interchangable with carb'ed heads/intake.  A decent set of worked 4bbl heads and a carb type intake with bungs welded in would make it a monster and wouldn't be crazy expensive. 

If you know people, you could do it silly cheap.

Thats true. See I would just do it all up one year so the engine was in and running and the drivetrain was working right. then the following year do the engine mods. Yeah some Edelbrock heads,intake and tb adapter would work out awesome for that. All in time. Still having trouble finding a good 5.0L platform to start with.Not may up here in Canada.Lots of 3.8L

The 460 FI swap sounds great on paper, but unless you want to make more than 600 hp with a stock block, a 408 W would be a wiser choice.

Of course this is coming from a guy that has done 3 460 Fox swaps. (all carbed of course)

If you are wanting gas mileage, then the big block swap is a total waste.

When we did our first BB swap in 1995, the only way you could make power was with a 460. Now a 351w can make that power easily.

Very good point you make...but who can resist  MASSIVE quantities of torque EVERYWHERE?! lol

BTW, I saw a straight six fox fairmont in the local 'yard today...was very tempted to pull the engine and k-member for my dream of an EFI turbo-6...lol. 

I'd be dangerous if I had money!

Gas milage is not a concern. I just don't like carbed engines. I play with fuel injection all day so it is just seems right to keep it fuel injected....plus I do not see many 460 efi anything unless it is in a truck,motorhome or cubevan. Don't need 600hp to have fun. The engine is all torque and thats what I want on the streets. I am not really into drag racing with it but the occasional foot to the floor to boil the shoes will be nessasary.

 Yeah a 351w would be a good swap but the only thing is that I have to change everything to do a bigger small block swap, so then why not go bigger? I did this on a Capri. I went from 302 to 351 all efi. It was expensive as hell. The engine alone with all the swap parts was about $3500 canadian...that was when our dollar was . So is a 460 swap but again.......bigger and something to talk about.

I understand.  As much as I try to convince myself to pull out the 460 in my 87 TC, (and put in a 302), the allure of a big block in a "late model" car pulls me back in.... lol  :D

So, I can see where you are coming from.

I found a 87 turbocoupe auto for a starting point. I just need to sell my Bronco to pay for it.

Yes, both the Gray Bird and the 87 TC have 460s in them.

Awesome. I have to check it out at home. Work blocks me. I will also do a search on 460 swap or big block swap.

Sweet. I just picked up a 88 5.0L Thunderbird today. Really happy with it.
