You caught it before anything too damaging happened so on the safe side, spend the extra time and money as preventative or take the chances and go.Down time now, or the chance of more money and more time later. HELP!.... Pics inside: Reply #16 – May 30, 2008, 09:42:12 PM So they are lash caps !!! Isn't the one on left in second picture cracked???Get some decent rockers on that engine!!! Ditch those caps...As far as tearing it down, pull the intake... If there isn't anything in the lifter valley, I wouldn't worry about it...I have stock a pump shaft in my 5.0... I'd rather break the shaft, than maybe screw up the Dist/Cam if something gets into the pump to lock it up... Any small debris can lock up the pump... Years ago it was common for bits of plastic timing gear or broken rubber valve stem seals to get into the pump and cause such problems... With such tight clearances, doesn't take much at all to totally lock up a oil pump... Quote Selected

I will be swapping the Edelbrock Torker 302 intake for my brand new RPM Air Gap, so I will see if anything remains... as for tearing it down any further, I got laid off last week, so money is scarce right now....your right too, the piece that jammed the pump, was tiny... HELP!.... Pics inside: Reply #18 – May 31, 2008, 04:23:19 AM They look a lot like the plungers in a hydraulic lifter too. But I can't tell the diameter from the pic. My first thought WAS lash caps.Those rockers are fine unless you are running tons of spring pressure and RPM. And then the roller trunnion is more important than a roller tip. But at that point you might as well buy full roller rockers.Lash caps have their place where they are useful and needed.Something had to cause the oil pump to stop. The distributor was still turning and twisting the shaft. You should check the bottom of the distributor too. Look at the drive gear and the shaft where the oilpump shaft was engaged. Quote Selected
