Great start for my week! Reply #15 – April 22, 2008, 02:58:33 PM Quote from: Ductape91;215237i know, i know, im one to talk but since some of the others that thrive on these threads havent chimed in yet i thought id have to ask, since im coming from the same situation, sorta;)ok, so i'm 34 years old, and i've been pulled over for speeding and bulbs and stuff too, maybe 12 times in my life, twice in a 3 day period once, i've even had my license suspended for non payment of my car taxes and didn't know it..... AND I'VE NEVER BEEN TOWED OR ARRESTED..... that is why i don't understand posts like this.... i have NEVER had an experience where an officer was a "dick"..... i've had a few that didn't even ask me for an excuse, they just wrote me a ticket, but never treated in a "vile" way..... i was once pulled over in east detroit for expired tags (i think they were 6 days expired) and he searched my jeep, wrote me a ticket for the expired tag and then another one for not signing the registration (even though it was expired?), but i DROVE home..... i must be missing something....hell, on the way to CATJAM last year, i was pulled over with AtroXR7 (he was following me) in west virginia on US19 for going 74 in a 55..... 2 cops pulled us both over, asked me if i knew we were speeding, i said"no, i thought it was still 65", and they LET US GO WITH A WARNING EVEN WITH my out of state tags.......that's what makes me wonder what's not being said when these posts are written...... i'm by no means saying that it can't happen exactly as it's being said, i'm just saying that i've never witnessed it and don't understand why it doesoh, that was my :2c: :burnout: Quote Selected
Great start for my week! Reply #16 – April 22, 2008, 03:09:10 PM Hell if i see someone with a light out I tell them, wish more people were like that, there would be less problems. My rule is dont give cops a reason to pull you over, hell around here cops just let people drive by 5-10, over, BUT if you have something else that catches there eyes, they will come after you and bust your balls about the speeding as well. Great start for my week! Reply #17 – April 22, 2008, 03:13:21 PM It does happen. Some cops are OK, some are dicks. In the OP's case, legally the car shouldn't have been on the road (no insurance) and there was nobody legally able to drive it (suspended license), so it was towed/impounded. 'Round here the police are legally obligated to impound uninsured vehicles, because had the OP left the scene with the vehicle and gotten into an accident without insurance the cop and/or department could be held liable for letting it happen. The jail thing, well, the cop was probably just being a dick. There are, believe it or not, cops who are just plain dicks that like to show their "powah" over civilians. The OP was unfortunate enough to have run into just such a cop. It could also be that Ohio law mandates custody for driving while suspended. I know plenty of places are cracking down on it, including here in Nova Scotia, because it's become a real epidemic. Great start for my week! Reply #19 – April 22, 2008, 05:58:02 PM I've had my car towed because I had insurance, while my lincense was suspended for no insurance. When I first started the job I have now, I had to go to the dmv and get a copy of my driving record. It was clean with not even a fine on it. Less then 6 months ago, I was told my lincense was suspended at least 5 times with out them even sending me out a letter, because I didn't update my address while I was living in my car. Great start for my week! Reply #20 – April 22, 2008, 06:04:14 PM Quote from: Thunder Chicken;215194I've actually heard of it happening quite often in the USA, and for really weird reasons. I've read about it in car magazines and seen it a million times on "Cops". Quite often a child support payment bounced (or even just a processing error) or something totally unrelated to the DMV will cause it...My opologies,I actually have never heard of that.I stand corrected. Great start for my week! Reply #21 – April 22, 2008, 09:20:51 PM Quote from: dw43935;215234Turns out that I had a hefty fine of $325 back in September. I paid $100 when I went to court, sent a money order for the remaining $225 a couple weeks later. Now the mayors court say they never received payment. So, I need to find my copy of the money order to show proof of payment or pay it again. I moved since then so that could be the reason for not getting anything from the BMV. My license still have my old address on them. It will work out eventually. It's just all about $$$$.That reminds me of when i paid one tickets online with my debit card. I thought everything went well then i got a summons to court saying i did not pay my fine/ show up for court. I go to court my lawyer tells me they rejected my card here is the funny part, they never sent me an email or tried to contact me at all. Everything worked out well tho i got the charges pleaded down and had to pay less than what i originally owed. Quote Selected
Great start for my week! Reply #22 – April 22, 2008, 09:23:35 PM Bah! The legal system is a good idea, but BAH! Half the time it doesn't work.... and when it does... it takes FOREVER. **Edit: At least here in In my humble opinion! Quote Selected
Great start for my week! Reply #23 – April 23, 2008, 04:50:03 AM The only thing I didn't mention was the hefty fine in September was also for diving under suspension because of back child support. No, I'm not a dead beat dad by far, I was laid off for 3 months. Yes, I knew about that suspension, but I had To work to pay child support & the only way I could get to work was to drive. Ohio must have a set bond for every traffic offense. They just wrote me a ticket for $375 & told me I was free to go, but I couldnt take my car with me. It was reduced to $325 when I went to court. So, no I'm not stupid enough to knowingly do this again. This last deal happened in West Virginia ( It takes 2 min to W.V. from my house) the cop told me that ther was not a set bond so I had to stay at the jail until I see a Magistrate, which would be between 8:30 & 12:00. The impound was because my insurance card was expired. I got the new card the next day that states that I was covered at the time of the arrest, but I still have to pay impound fees & tow bill to get it back. This is an area with many small towns crammed together, alot of our local city cops are young and full of ego, when they feel the need, they let you know who's in charge. So watch your ass on your way to Cat Jam if your on state Rt. 7 any where south of Stubenville, OH. In this state, you only drive as fast as you can afford to. Quote Selected
Great start for my week! Reply #24 – May 03, 2008, 02:58:28 AM Well, the Bird is finally back in the driveway. $195, an insurance card, & my g/f to drive it. I have to see a lawyer tuesday & then they will set a court date. Everything should clear with the BMV by the middle of next week, so my license should be reinstated. Quote Selected
Great start for my week! Reply #25 – May 03, 2008, 11:42:47 PM your lucky, it cost me $700 to get mine back. i did have to wait for it to go up for auction first since it was cheaper buying it back than paying the fines on it lol:flame: Quote Selected
