what was the deal with the boss 302

it was put on there by a guy I bought my red stang from years ago...  just a NOS sticker that he had kicking around so he used it on them...  looked neat, and got quite a few comments, LOL...  I may get a set made up in white and throw on them...:hick:

for those of you interested in getting that same "shotgun peppered frying pan look" it's called hammertone. we ran that pretty much every day in various different colors at lifetime products when i used to work there. looks so good that i might just talk to my old supervisor about running my covers through. thanks for thinking outside the box man!

we talked about doing the rims...  by the time he would be done stripping and coating them....  I could buy a set of Hawks rims...  (slight exageration, but not by much).  the engine block is going to be quite expensive, but I think it will be worth it...  especially for the durability of the powdercoating, and the show finish it will give it.

well it looks exactly like a hammertone we used at lifetime products a few years ago. we even ran blue. call it what ya want but i'll call it hammertone.

to clarify, i talked to my dad. he was the powdercoating supervisor, then department head totalling for more than 5 years. they are the same principle. the difference is which color pulls away from the metal. with your silver vein, if you used the same 2 colors but switched which one was your secondary color, it would be hammertone. i was referring to the texture not your coloring, which looks very nice btw.

powdercoating is done with magnetics. the metal run through the oven is negatively charged and the powder is charged positively. so obviously it would just stick right on there. with 2 colors both the same polarity with the metal being the other, they both stick to the metal while trying to repel eachother. gets a look that is not possible with paint, plus much more durable.

and for those who would like to see comparison,

still has that shotgun peppered look, (which is what i was referring to i should've been clearer) but the colors are transposed and the hammertone we ran at lifetime was more metallic.

thanks for the tips..  I know how powdercoating works... ;)

saying they are the same, is like calling your cougar a thunderbird...  get the idea?  sure they are similar...  but they are NOT the same.

ya got me there, although not everybody knows how it works. so i share. and you're right it is different, i was merely referring to the scattered 2 color scheme. i thought "silver vein" was just the name of the color scheme, not a different branch of the process.
