Surface mount tweeters up front?

I got the eyeball one mounted in my dash in place of the factory speakers and they sound fantastic.

Honda owners are like rabbits......they hide under your shed during the winter and then 30 of them come popping out around spring.

Surface mount tweeters up front?

Has anyone tried putting surface mount tweeters on the triangular plastic trim piece on the far front piece of the side windows? Just curious.

I would think it would be a better location than putting a set of tweeters in the stock dash location and having a set of 6.5" in the wall, but I am audioally retarded.

I did this in my wife's Acura several years ago and they are still holding up.  I used a hole saw bit to cut the triangle piece and I had to take the tweeter housing apart to achieve an almost flush mount.

There is very little space between that plastic trim and the mirror bolts and wires.  Rockford Fosgate packaged three different bezels or mounting methods with those tweeters.  I didn't use any of them because they all looked hideous and bulbous.  So I ended up removing some of the plastic housing trim from the tweeter (which wasn't one of the options) and it turned out like you see in the pictures below.  I thought about putting speaker cloth over the whole triangle piece or at least starting from the triangular mold line but never got around to it.  It could be done though and it would look factory.

Thing is, I would never do this again.  Way, way too much brightness/treble, even when turned all the way down with some recordings.  Some CDs sound ok but some were recorded with the higher frequencies over-amplified and the tweeters mounted high bring it out too much.  The only way that I could make this work would be to buy an aftermarket EQ capable of taking the treble down lower than her current source unit.
