Pull the spark plugs and try to turn it over, I had a fuel pressure regulator go bad once and it filled the cylinders with gas, the starter would not turn the engine over because of the hydraulic force the full cylinders caused, if that is the problem you will need to change your oil, it will have gas in it.
a mustang II front-end is somthing i have been thinking about but if it fits there will be no need for it. Here is a link with the dimensions of ford engines, a Cleveland is only a ½” wider than a Windsor, about 20 years ago I had the engine in a 1965 mustang without any modifications to the shock towers, I used tubular automotive headers with 2” primaries and 3.5” collectors, it was a tight fit and it did fill the engine bay, but I could still change the plugs without pulling the engine, my 93 thunderbird dose have a larger engine bay than a 65 mustang, I haven’t found anyone that makes a set of headers for this combo but they all say the fox swap headers should fit, I can make my own headers for a lot less money than the fox headers that mite fit.
I plan on fabricating my own headers from 2.125” u-bends and j-bends with 3.5” collectors, modifying a truck oil pan, and I will be running the closed chamber iron heads and the Holley strip dominator intake that is already on it.
Yes that is very nice, that has me thinking about the aod in my 93 bird, i plan on installing a 600hp (at the crank) 351 Cleveland bored and stroked to 393, can an aod (built of course) handle it. If they are not computer controlled then it shouldn’t be to big of a headache, just build the trans and get a custom converter, what do you think?
thanks for the pics, you have a very nice car there, how mant ponys are you putting threw that 8.8 rearend? that is about the same thing i plan to do to mine, can i ask what size wheels and tires you are running, and if you like the size. my car is a lx 3.8 but i have a lincon mark 8 alluminum to put in after i put in a locker a gears, im thinking some were between 4.11 and 4.88. please tell me about your car what trans you run and what gear? thanks Dan
i hit send and see its not your car, anyone here own one like it?
yes it will be a lot of work, old school 850dp carb, fuel cell in the trunk, home fab headers, c6 trans, custom dash and gauges, no computer. It will be a fun sleeper street car, I only paid $350 for it and it is perfectly straight. No rust no dents and good interior, I know it would be much easer to put it in a 1970 Mustang but for the price I paid for it I couldn’t pass it up, I already have the engine and trans and needed a new project to work on anyway.
one other thing i will have to research is the change over from fuel injection to carberated, how much computer stuff i need to remove and what will be effected from it.
