You've got a good combination going...you're using the explorer intake right?
Good luck!

Yep,, using explorer intake.

That reminds me a lot of my engine when I was bolting everything together on the stand.
I hope this car looks as good as yours one day.. Its so hard for me not to modify and build this car right now. Ive built so many mustangs and not having a hot rod at the moment, is killing me.. The urge to do this car is very hard to resist. So I had to break down some and modify it alittle before I lost my cool...:D
Few pictures of some of mustangs Ive had and built.. can see more on cardomain,, in my sig..
My 86 T-top GT..
When I got it
When I finished..
My 88GT 1st one I built back in 94-96
My last mustang I sold bought 4-5 months ago.. 93 Summer Edition.. (blown 331 Art carr AOD) sold it so I can get 05+ GT or GT500
I have stock HO intake, cam, and HO speed density computer I dont have use for. Intake is clean and ready to bolt on and comes with HO throttle body spacer. The computer(s) is from an 87 mustang. I have 2 computers, one is auto(DC) and other is 5 speed(DA1).
Also have a set of gasket matched E7's, but not sure if they are good. They came off motor I just pulled from car that was puking coolant out driver side tail pipe. If you buy intake, you can have them, if you pick items up..
I am located in Columbus GA 31909 and really would like someone close enough to pick items up. Dont mind shipping the cam, or computer, but really dont want to mess with shippign the intake.
Thanks man,,, Figured I would try to give my kids things I didnt get a chance to have growing up. I grew up in, inner city of Detroit until I joined the US Army in 88.. Didnt get my 1st car until I was 21 and bought it myself. Long story short, dad passed when I was young and mom struggled with 4 of us to raise..
Couple things I forgo ton combo,,
kirban adjustable regulator, (another thing I had laying around), mac 1 5/8 Shorty headers, 2.5" off road X-pipe, cat back with stock 05 lers. Sounds real good IMO... Once running will get vid of exhaust,
Also got him soem new seats coming, 94GT seats, and also aquired majority of 87-88 Turbo bird black interior. Got liek 80% of it. So will be transforming interior from blue to black & grey combo.. Here are couple pictures of 2nd motor going into bird... Wish headers were ceramic coated, but cant complain for $40, they will do for now.
And extra pic of the mustang 85/86GT/SVO type 3 spoke steering wheel..
For me and if it were my son and he had seen my "project" cars...no way I am changing cams, springs, or putting anything but a stock stall in the AOD. The stock motor will be just fine for a DD and it will keep him out of trouble. Besides, within a very short time frame father and son would be itching for more power so why not just leave it alone and start building another motor for the car as a project? Sounds like you have an antifreeze puking candidate right now that could use a rebuild. Just seems like the work plus the parts plus any money that will be spent to put a stock cam in would not be worth it as it will not be in the car long enough to justify even the labor let alone the actual parts and money.
Just my take on it but then again I cannot leave a stock car alone longer than it takes to get it from where I bought it and to my house.
Darren
Dont know what happen to that motor, when it started puking coolant. Only thing I changed was the raditor cap, from 13# to 16# and thats what started it all. So bought another motor to swap in for now. When I broke it down, intake and head gaskets look good and didnt see any obvious items. So it maybe in the heads, since I bought them used. Short block was also used, but did put new bearings, oil pump and timing chain in it. Motor was running great for few days, and even had AC blowing cold. When I swapped rad caps is when it started puking. Guess the 3 extra pounds put it over the edge. Will set short block off to side, for now, and use it later.
But the new motor will consist of;
HO conversion,( had SD computer & 19# injectors laying around) Explorer motor, Gt4o heads, explorer cam, Exlporer intake, 65 Throttle body,(had laying around) FMS 1.6 roller rockers,( had laying around)
Did send tranny off for freshening, and person who is doing it, uses Baunam shift kits in his rebuilds. Nothing fancy, but said it will firm up shifts.. Did go with stock stall for now, and it may change later, again when son gets some exprience. Do have a turbo bird 8.8 I may install after he drives a few months. I figure afte rhe drives a year, the speed bug should have bitten him. And then, we can start modifing the car.
That should be plug and play.Got an H.O cam or other in the engine yet?
Motor not in yet, got it on stand now waiting for trans to come back. Figured since everthing was out get tranny freshened, since my kids will be driving car most of time. Person building it is install Baunam shift kit. He does that as part of standard build proceedures. Going to drop motor and tranny in as one, when it comes back.
I have an HO cam, but think I am going to run the explorer cam to see how it will perform. After talking to a couple guys on Corral that have used the explorer cam, figured I would give it a shot. Worse come to worse will swap it later, with aftermarket siince I have mass air waiting. And by then my son should be use to driving and get him wrenchin on motor.
Sounds like your altenator isnt working, but if its new, you may have a short somewhere drawing power. Or the altenator charge is making to battery. If battery had a dead/weak cell car should run fine, with new altenator. Just have problems if it sits for a while.
There is a fuseible link for the Alt that hooks to the starter relay, if the 86 birds are like the 87-88's and like the mustangs. Not sure on color but should be tell you in Haynes/Chilton manual.. If that fusible link is blown, then alt isnt charging battery and that is your problem.
Has anyone used the plug & play harness that sandwhichs between EEC and EEC connecter to do mass air conversion? Once adapter is sandwhiched between EEC & connecter, the mass air harness plugs into the adapter.
I aquired one today and if it will work on the bird, that will be nice. That way when I do get ready to more mods later, wont haev to worry about cam selection. Plus have a stock meter and A9P laying around to do conversion with.
Here is picture of sandwhich type harness I am refering to..
Is the adjustable rears a must when doing the Mach 1 springs?? Not looking to put that much into the car at the moment. But when my son gets tired of the car, I plan on keeping it for myself and build a hot rod out of it. Been building mustang for years and after I get my new convertible for wife & I to cruise in, want a car to play with. Always like T-birds and now I have a decent one to start with, it maybe around for awhile. Hopefully it survives my son since he has just started driving..
I have the same as Vinnie. Of course I have no motor in.
The drop in the rear was pretty noticeable after it was done
Stock SN-95 springs?? I like the way Vinnie's set, but I already have a set of mach 1's sitting around.. But if they slam it, then not going to put them on.
I'd go with a 2400 stall lockup converter as well...
That work well with stock HO cam?? I havent messed with stock HO stuff in so long, and plus never messed with stock AOD stuff. Most of the stang Ive had were 5 speeds, and last 2 I had Art Carr AOD's with 3000-3200 stall. But also they were behind blown stroker combo's.
This car wont be going to track anytime soon. Might take my son drag racing after he gets some driving under his belt. He doesn't take the test for his driver license until July 23rd... And I think once he gets his freedom with having a car, then we will start modifying it.
Its hard for me not to go crazy with this thing, right now. Since I sold my 93 Summer Edition droptop, I am fee-ning for a hot-rod to build.
I got Mach 1 springs all around in my 88 cougar. I used CHE adjustable control arms in the rear to bring the height up, but the front is real low I can only fit one finger between the tire and fender. I haven't driven it yet so I can't comment on the ride yet..
Have any pictures of car with them?? I went through your build post and didnt see any...

I'm using the SN-95 springs.I like the overall look, and the car can still take a speed bump without having to slow to a crawl.
Seen you car when I did search, and thats looks good. Thats what me got to thinking about the Mach 1 springs.. Since I already have them. If they drop it to far then will just wait to lower it. Only reason I am considering the Mach 1's is because they are a FREEBIE.... And free is alway's in the budget..:D

I have a set of FMS 1.5 inch drop springs for a 88 mustang I installed in my 85 TC, the front fenders now cover the tire by about 3/8 inch and that is running a 225/50/16 tire
I did a search and found that SN-95 springs are a way to lower the sport birds. Has anyone tried a set of Mach 1 or Bullit springs? I have a set laying around and thought about putting them on..
