Engine Tech / h-pipe alignment help
I had a BBK H on my old Sport and it went right in with no issues. I also, like Vinnie, did away with the H hangers, not because of fitment, but because I didn't have the bracket.

Engine Tech / Exhaust upgrade for 1988 Tbird Sport ?

Have you actually bolted a Stang H pipe to a set of T-Bird exhaust manifolds??

factory mustang h, yes. aftermarket, no. I have had stock mustang headers bolted to stock t-bird y-pipe before and contrary to popular belief it sealed just fine

Mustangs have "better" heads, upper intake (lower is identical), cam, and headers. those items combined with a different ECU and 19lb injectors make for a roughly 65hp difference (150 vs 215)

the stock mustang headers are better than your stock manifolds, but not by much.

I have to admit that this isn't the best 351/aod price I have ever got. I bought a 351w and AOD out of a 85 Crown Vic cop car for $100 a few years ago, but I let that go when I traded my 77 Mustang II for  a 95 Dodge Ram.

I was just cruising craigslist seeing what I could find worth buying and found the 351 listed for $250. I texted him and asked what bottom dollar was and he said he would do $150. We texted back and forth and due to weather it took a few days to be able to go get it. He texted me Monday night and said he would throw in the AOD that came out of his mustang when he c4 swapped it for another $50. I said I would do $35 on it and he said ok. Then yesterday while at lunch I shot him a text to see if it came with a TV cable and he said he had a braided stainless Lokar cable that he would let go with it for $25 more. I told him I only had $200 to spend and he bit.

He had a 2.5" X-pipe with Flowmaster Super 10's welded to it that he said he would take $60 for but I had already told him I only had $200 so looks like I shot myself in the foot there. I would have had to modify the whole exhaust to work with the 351 (without 351 swap headers), but the lers and s are worth $60. Probably going to end up buying it in a few weeks.

After selling quite a bit off the TC I have decided to keep it. I am working on getting parts together to put it back together.

Last night I picked up a 351w and AOD w/ a Lokar TV cable for $200. 351 is out of a 79 Marquis, so it won't be a powerhouse just yet but it will get the car back on the road. Best part about it being out of a Panther chassis car is the oilpan is the one I need for a fox body :D So that alone was enough to make it worth buying. $100 oilpan, $75 Lokar cable, looks like I have about $25 in an AOD and a 351w

Hoping to set it all down in there this weekend, I still have the solid engine mounts that I built for the old 88 Sport and I have a double hump transmission crossmember from a mustang that will be going in it.  Not sure what I'm going to do for exhaust, I know I will be building an exhaust from the headers back but I am hoping that I can make either stock mustang headers or the 79 Marquis manifolds work.

If you add headers, you'll need an H-pipe,

This isn't entirely true. yes, it would help with flow, but it isn't a necessity. My old 88 Sport had stock mustang headers and the stock t-bird y-pipe when I bought it. the holes in the s on the y-pipe had been slotted slightly, but it does work and will seal just fine. ALTHOUGH, you WILL have to have o2 sensor bungs welded into the y-pipe, which makes it almost pointless to keep the y-pipe. I did upgrade to a 2.5" h-pipe when I came across a smokin deal on one, but what it had worked...
