Drivetrain Tech / Can 4 lug axles be drilled for 5 lug?
In my 87 Cougar, I used Moser axles with c-clip eliminators which did not allow me to use disc brakes.  So I am using the factory 10 inch backing plates and some 5 lug hardware from a Lincon Town Car.  I recommend that you save up the extra 100 dollars and use the SN95 Axles because they are only 259 per pair on Summit Racing.  That way you are sure the ends are square and not brittle from excess heat. the come machined for c-clips but can be used with the eliminators.  Word of advice if you do the eliminators, make sure you take it to a shop that does custom work so that they can trim the axle to length otherwise the hub stick out a little wider than before making tire fitment a concern and on drums the gap between the backing plate and the drum without tpuppies was 1/4 inch.

Engine Tech / Carbueted Hood clearance ?
I run a 8.2 deck engine with a Parker Funnel Web intake manifold, 4150 series Pro Systems Carb, and a Moroso 2 1/2 inch drop deck air cleaner and a 3 inch filter.  The engine mounts are custom 2 1'2" tall solid steel instead of the factory 3" fluid dampened biscuits.  Everything else is standard height and I have 3/8" clearance from the top of the cleaner and the hood.

T-Bird/Cougar Parts & Cars WANTED / Hood Needed
I am looking for a cowl hood for my cougar.  It is a 1987.  Does anyone have one on this board happen to have one that they are willing to sell?

Suspension/Steering / Rack & pinion question...
Just an update to the thread.  The standard inner tie rod ends for 94-95 mustangs use a metric thread on the inner tie rod socket.  The Cougar/Thunderbird inner sockets are SAE.  In 1995, the Mustang GTS used the SAE thread inner socket and the longer style outer tie rod ends which worked perfectly in my 1987 Cougar when I made the conversion to 5 lug.  I can get part numbers for TRW or Moog if anyone is interested.

Body/Appearance/Interior / 4 inch cowl
The price is right for a pin on hood.  Unfinished underside so if you want to show it off that may be something you need to address.  A friend of mine has one of their hoods on his 86 GT Mustang and he is very happy with the quality but that is one person.  Cruise over to corral.net and search their body and exterior threads.  They have over 100 thousand members and it is the most likely place to find several users of their products.

Your battery relocate is nice but you need a vented box to be track legal.  I realize that the pictures look like in progress photos so I assume you already know this.  Since I have had a very similar setup and know what I was able to get out of mine I am curious about a few things.

1.  What does your car currently weigh?
2.  What transmission are your using?  Auto/Manual  and Stall if auto?
3.  What gears are you running in your differential?
4.  What suspension are you currently using front and rear?
5.  What modifications to your differential have been made?
6.  At what RPM are you planning to shift?
7.  Do you plan on running slicks and a drive shaft safety loop?
8.  Are you planning on installing a roll cage?

Whats it run? Heads? Intake? Stroker? Come on I need details with my car porn.

I am not finished with the suspension as of yet.  The rear anti-roll bar needs to be welded in place before I take it to the track.  It will keep the body from rolling and closing the gap on the right rear slick.

Current engine is what is listed in my profile signature, but here is what I am running.

Blueprinted 306
Thumper Ported Canfield 195's
Polished Parker Funnelweb intake
Pro Systems carburetor
Tight Lash Solid Roller Camshaft
-shift point 7200 with 7400 cross
-Idle RPM 750 with 16" vacuum
4.30 gear ratio
26X10 M/T ET Drag Slicks
Moser axles, Powertrax Posi, Welded tubes, LPW differential cover in an 8.8 with c-clip eliminators and 3" Moser wheel studs long enough to be NHRA legal with the Weld Star rims, Lincoln Town Car 10 X 3" 5 Lug rear drums and the adapter lug nuts with clearly visible full thread engagement.
Tremec 3550 II Manual Transmission
Home made solid 1/2" drop engine mounts.
Stock fuel tank bottom sumped with -10 feed line to the Aeromotive A1000 fuel pump which pushes the fuel through -8 feed and return lines.

All of the work/installation except for the machine work and porting was done by me.

The last combination ran 12.20 @ 103

Great looking car. I'd love to have those seats. With the car siting so low, how's the ride quality? Does it kind of have that "bounce" to it? The paint looks awesome as well.

Hey, I just noticed, you have a leather wrapped steering wheel under that cover. Again, great looking car.

Thanks,

The car does not have much bounce because I am using 86 Mustang GT Convertible rear springs and Lakewood 50/50 shocks with the CW relocation brackets on the shocks.  Mostly the bounce is not there because of the Team Z relocation bracket that moves the upper control arms forward and down to correct geometry issues created by lowering the vehicle.  I had another brand which worked fine with the stock ride height springs but when I installed the Mustang Coils that "bounce" you mentioned was very much there.

The studs are long because they are the 3" Moroso studs designed to work with the adapter lug nuts for the weld rims and it has 10" drums.

The stripes on the hood are ghost graphics painted on and continue down both sides of the car into the last third of the doors.

The fuel lines are the plumbing for the stock fuel tank which has had a sump added and the fuel pump is now an Aeromotive A1000.  That is -8 fuel line.

I don't like the huge tachometer either but I drag race the car and it is nice when I need to glance quick for shift points.  Unlike most of the tuners around here, my tach actually works and isn't for show.

If you look closely you can see the tank sump and the -10 feed line running to the pump mounted under the car.
