i'm thinking so. tried turning it on while driving tonight, and it ran fine, even when i came to a stop. once i got home to my driveway, i put it in park and it stayed running. was even able to pop the hood and look at what's going on underneath. i had to replace the IAC not too long ago. how do i go about raising my idle?
Whenever I turn on the A/C in my 86 Cougar 5.0, it kills the engine. I've never tried while driving, for fear of death... but I noticed the other day that if i turn on the defrost with the temp all the way on cold, it will blow nice cold air out through the defroster. Any idea's?
I painted the h/l buckets and the inner grill of the main grille. My mechanic buddy helped me with it. everything is black except for the chrome edges. Only problem was, my mechanic buddy didn't bother to mention or bring up clear coating anything, and I'm still kinda a noob, so within a week it was all chipped up from bugs and gravel and such. he came back to me after seeing it and was like "you shoulda clear coated it!" thanks buddy... thanks a lot! but yeah, for that week, it looked sweet! didn't take a lot of work, just a pain to tape of the chrome just right.
For the sake of full disclosure, I just fixed the idling problem I was having on the Cougar. Had to replace the Idle Air Control Valve, and now it's running quite a bit better than it was. Still hoping to peak someone's interest!
Here's the pictures. If you want to see anything else on the car, let me know and I can post some more pictures.
Also wanted to mention I have a full digital instrument cluster (extra), 4 Cougar mud flaps, and 1 WORKING Electro-luminescent Cougar emblem that will be included with the car. I can post pictures of those if people would like also.
I'll have pictures for you guys hopefully tomorrow. I know everyone is dying to see this thing, as is clear by the comments or questions on it... :)
Also wanted to mention I have a full digital instrument cluster (extra), 4 Cougar mud flaps, and 1 WORKING Electro-luminescent Cougar emblem. Don't know if that peaks any interest or not, but just so everyone is aware, those will be included with the car as well.
Need a parts car or a project car? I'm selling my 86 Cougar 5.0. It needs a little work, but it is still in decent running shape. A/C works, transmission was recently rebuilt (12/10), recently purchased tires (12/10) and recently replace brakes (12/10). I'm selling it for $1500 AS IS, OBO. I will post a picture as soon as I get a chance. I started body work on it, but only got as far as bond-o and primer before running out of money and getting married. Valve cover gaskets need replaced along with the windshield.
Engine is the original V8 5.0 302, and has approx 130,000 miles on it.
If you have any questions or are interested, feel free to PM me or reply to this thread. I'm looking to unload my baby asap, and willing to travel a reasonable distance to do so. I love this car, but am simply not able to keep it up anymore.
Is there a marketplace on here? I'm looking to sell my 86 Cougar and figured I would try the fanatics first, if only for a parts car or project or something. If anyone can direct me where to post for that, that would be great!
i'm just relaying what my mechanic buddy told me. just trying to be helpful because that is the exact problem I had, and replacing the MAP sensor fixed it.
the main problem, though, was that I could not turn the key to the ON position... but I got it figured out this morning. apparently the alarm/safety wire bracket had broken off and the leads weren't touching, keeping me from being able to turn the cylinder. unhooked the wire, it was able to turn. but now i have 3 keys for my car instead of just two...
the MAP sensor, if it's not working, will cause the computer to think there is not enough air pressure in the system, which will cause the engine to open up and pull more air through, which causes the revving up. that's what happened with my cougar. it would rev up in the drive thru and the person at the window would think i was trying to impress them with my sweet ride...
