:mad:1st '88 5spd T-Bird (267,000mi)down due to fuel leak (from the fuel rail~ I have replacement part), bracket securing tranny to engine block broken (also lost two bolts from tranny to bell housing so tranny slipped back 1/4" at bottom) not sure of the damage but I couldn't get reverse to disengage.
2nd '88 5spd T-Bird (103,000mi)had rattling sound from engine (like overheating/bad gas) and I just finished the compression test and cycl. #1=90psi, #2=90psi, #3=150psi, #4=155psi. Even after I put a tablespoon of oil in cycl#1 & #2, it only came up to 90psi again for both.
SO NOW..I'm "car" less and riding a bike to work! Which would be the easiest and cost effective to fix. I'm hoping 2nd T-Bird problem is just a blown head gasket(but it never smoked). If it's (2)two burnt valves, then it'll be down for awhile.
T-Bird #1 I would have to fix the fuel leak, find the continuous oil leak, get another engine-tranny bracket, secure the tranny back to the bell housing.
I can only attempt to fix one and try to get it back on the road. MAN..TWO 'BIRDS DOWN!!! IT HURTS.
I'm thinking of buying Stinger-Performance full exhaust set-up from the manifold back (mine is finally unrepairable)on my '88 Turbocoupe 5sp. Just have a few (heh) questions.
1. Which is better 3" or 2.5" (oh, btw mines duals) 2. Has anyone every bought this from Stinger-Performance (are they good?) 3. I'm not a welder, but could I install this exhaust at the house?
:mad:I have a puddle of fuel between #2 and #3 injector. I had earlier changed all the "O" rings but that didn't stop the leak. I actually thought it was the #1 fuel injector. Nevertheless, I bought only (1) injector (I know, I usually get all four), but for the quick fix, I just bought one. Well I changed injector #2(that's were the leak looked like it was coming from) but that didn't help.
My question is, has anyone heard of that fuel rail that sits on the injectors leaking??
Or is it possible that there might be a crack in one of the bezels? BTW my car is a '88 Turbo 5spd.
:rollin:Looks like a got a new job that pays pretty well. Because of this, I will be putting in my new "battery" in my '88 Sport T-Bird "THOR".
Quick story: I got hit on my motorcycle by a drunk driver that ran a red light. I represented myself, won the case and a settlement. Then I bought this new "battery"! ( knees still hurt, but as long as my gas pedal foot is alright ) :D
:shakeheadIf you have a weak stomach don't look....or if you have an adventurous mind, this is cool.
It was one of my son's and I favorite salvage yard near Waco, TX. But as of 2009, the owner past away and the WHOLE salvage yard was crushed and cleared! (sniff..sniff)
Actually, the title could be misread, for example, this was also a place of adventure in finding many needed parts.
Here's the survey question. Both of my T-Birds..'88's are a/c challenged. My "hooptie" T-Bird just needs freon, R12 vs R134, whereas my newly aquired '88 T-Bird needs compressor/clutch and assesories. My overall goal is to a/c in both cars before I "burn up"!
So with that being said.....should I..
1. Buy the new Ford HR980 a/c compressor and clutch then use R134 refridgerant
or
2. Buy the new Ford HR980 a/c compressor and clutch then use R12 refridgerant
It's been awhile since I have been browsing through "Fox T-Bird/Cougar Forums" but is there a section or thread that most members have posted their vehicles to look at. I had saw a nice jade or emareld green T-Bird and I think it said vinnietbird but couldn't find any pictures looking in the user ride section. On the NATO site, there is a section that displays members cars.
Just curious. Didn't someone post a thread that they had put either 305's or 315's size tires on their '87 or '88 T-Bird. If not, can a 305 or 315 size tire on a 18" rim be modified to fit in the rear of a '87/'88 T-Bird?
I have my T-Bird stripped down as far as I want it and I have a few question. 1. Can I get a new engine wire harness for my 392 stroker crate motor. I bet it has to be a 351W truck harness. 2. Is it easy to change out my rack and pinion now since I have clear access. 3. I might want to put a new "K-Member" set up for my 'Bird. Does anyone know the part number, price and availibity of that part? 4. Last, but not least, since my 88 T-Bird is pretty much stripped (engine, tranny, seats, etc), my other Turbo T-bird has a tow hook. I would like to tow my Bird down to the local wash rack (8 miles round trip) and clean out the engine bay. Do you'all think I can do this without hurting my Turbo T'Bird (1988).
