Headrest removal?

I'm trying to get the factory seat covers off the '86 and these headrests are killing me.
I have tried just about everything I can think of and I'm sure there is a trick to this.
I just can't figure out how to remove them. HELP!!

1. Pull the headrest all the way up.
2. take a slim jim or a hacksaw blade and push it down the front of the headrest shaft untill you meet resistance.
3. push the headrest and the blade down together
4. hold the blade where it is while pulling up the headrest. The headrest should come all the way out.

EDIT: I knew this came up before

That worked like a charm for me. :D I just did it again this weekend. Also spray some WD-40 on the headrest shaft and it'll come flying out.

Thanks for the tips guys.
I knew I saw it here before but couldn't find it.

They still don't want to come off but I haven't given up. I must be doing something wrong. Anyway, I just stopped because I'm getting to the point that I'll cut them off.

Since that old post was before "the troubles", the attachments seem to be missing. The flat headrest shaft has a horizontal groove cut in it near the bottom. There's a big spring clip attached to the seat frame that drops into that groove to keep the shaft from coming out. The slim-jim or blade creates a "bridge" over the groove that keeps the clip out.

First pic: The spring clip in the seat frame.
Second pic: One of my world-famous animations (if it works).
