HO from lsc?

I know that most of this has already been posted or replied to, but I got sick of the popups and lack of serch function really quick.
In the local junk yards, there are at least 4 or 5 wrecked Marks hanging around every time I visit. I am looking for some cheap horse power upgrades. It would be ideal to get a complete 5.0 block, especially with how strict emmissions are here. I was told that it is almost impossible to swap engines of diffrent size without breaking any emmissions laws. I found a U-pull it yard where I can get a whole engine for $80 even. My engine is getting tired with 196,000 miles on it and with emissions in the next 6 months, I doubt it will pass. I "cheated" to get it on the road last time. If I get one, I dont want it to have a speed limiter(although probably not a bad idea)This was posted in another section.
"Yup, the Stang SD computer plugs in to a 5.0 '86-'88 Bird/Coug harness with no modifications necessary. Also a '86-'92 Lincoln LSC HO computer can be used(are all SD), but begnning '88 they have a speed limiter set at 106 mph".

My first question is: the speed limiter in the computer?

My second:How can you tell 86 and 87 marks from other years?

My third: Also how hard would it be to actually rebuild this engine?

My fourth:With the full digital dash, how much of the functions would I be able to keep if any? Also how much rewireing would have to be done?

I have some experiance, Me and my freind tore down a 89' cavilier 2.8 v-6 with over 200,000 miles replaced all gaskets and got his heads machined and put back together, and got it back up and running. I am still in auto shop, in my fourth year, but the first two were mainly book work.

i can answer the third. 5.0s are super easy to rebuild, it's all straightforward, nothing tricky. just some things you have to remember (like roller rockers go in the same way they came out, etc.)

take the engine out, take off accessories, oil pan, upper intake, lower intake, headers, balancer, timing cover, chain/sprockets, take off heads, unbolt main caps and remove crank, take out lifters+pushrods, take out cam, thats pretty much it. since you have experience taking apart engines I'm sure you'll have no prob.

The speed limiter is in the computer, so you'll want as Mustang SD computer if you don't want the speed limiter. The easiest and most reliable way to tell the year of the car is the serial #. Look at the 10th digit. 1986 will be "G", 1987 will be "H", 1988 will be "J" (there is no "I"), 1989 will be "K", and so on. As Zpyro said the engine rebuild is pretty straightforward; the 5.0 is a basic design. You should be able to keep all of your digital dash features with no rewiring, but you'll have to swap the temp and oil senders from your old engine onto the new one.
