Brokeblock mountain :( August 11, 2006, 09:59:50 AM Heres pics of my 306, that exploded on me while driving to work last thursday. While I was at a traffic light I felt some weird vibrations in the steering wheel and the floor. Light turns green, I'm trying to get in the right lane to pull over and check out under the hood and BOOM. Engine shuts down and I hear stuff falling on the ground. All this happens in a 30 second period, before this the engine ran great on the highway going to work. Quote Selected

Brokeblock mountain :( Reply #6 – August 11, 2006, 10:11:43 AM The one valve is bent and wasn't seating so I took that out. The valve seat looks okay to me (see 3rd pic on post #4) Thats it for that head that I can see. The other head has a "dent" or something right near the gasket area but not on it. I don't remember that being there when I put the heads on, and when I took the heads off it was nice and clean not dirty like you expect it to look if its been there. Also when I pulled that head last night it came right up nice and smooth so I know I didn't ding it than.. Quote Selected
Brokeblock mountain :( Reply #7 – August 11, 2006, 10:38:01 AM Ouch, that thing's F'ed up for sure. Did you figure out what caused it? Almost looks like a valve hit a piston or somethin although that seems kinda unlikely. Quote Selected
Brokeblock mountain :( Reply #8 – August 11, 2006, 10:54:37 AM That looks like more than a valve hitting a piston! About the only thing I can see splitting the block like that, other than nitrous or detonation, would be a broken crank. The way the block is pushed out in the top few pics seems to support this... My brother had that happen to the 4.2V6 in his F150 - same thing, just pulling away normally, and BANG! He literally blew the front of the engine off - you could look in one side and see out the other. His caught fire, tho - the hot oil hit the manifolds. Unfortunately for him the fire went out...
