Rear axle Questions - 8.8 TC August 10, 2006, 11:58:25 AM Hey Everyone,I have a few questions.I have a rear axle I just posted for sale here on Ebay (Item number: 190018147344). It came out of an 88 TC automatic. It has disc brakes, 3:73 Gearing, Traction-Lok. 4 Lug axles.I looked at the CoolCats website as well as some previous posts on the forum here and got as much info as I could on it and posted it along with what I already knew about the axle, however, I’m still getting potential buyers asking questions that I don’t have the answers to.I need some additional information on this axle (If the axle is wasn’t currently in storage about 100 miles away, I’d just go look at it and get the information myself).- What is the length of the axle? (I saw somewhere that is was 56”??)- Are the axle shafts 28 spline count?- One potential buyer wants to know it will work in his 81 mustang…his axle is 53 ½” wide in between backing plates…Will it work??- Is this accurate?- - I posted on there that “This axle will fit most Fox Body vehicles (Mustang, Capri, Thunderbird, Cougar) between 83 and 92 model years with little of no modification depending on vehicle application.” Any advise?? Rear axle Questions - 8.8 TC Reply #1 – August 11, 2006, 12:02:28 AM What you posted is correct, it is a 28 spline rearend and is 2"total wider than a stock 5.0 mustang rearend. It will fit any fox body including a Lincoln MKVII except the sway bar. The brakes will need to be modified to accept the rear disk brakes on most cars. The rearend is the exact one used in a SVO mustang. Quote Selected
Rear axle Questions - 8.8 TC Reply #2 – August 11, 2006, 12:43:22 AM Actually, SVO's had 7.5's with disc brakes, and they were five lug. The Turbo Coupe was the only car that a four lug disc brake 8.8 was ever used in (to my knowledge, because LSCs and Marks were 5 lug weren't they?). Quote Selected
Rear axle Questions - 8.8 TC Reply #3 – August 11, 2006, 09:08:34 AM The TC rear is the same as the '93 Cobra rear, IIRC. If it ain't the same, it's close - AFAIK the TC and '93 Cobra are the only fox Fords to ever have four lugs and disc brakes. I believe the Cobra even used the TC axle's unique length, which would explain its unique (to Mustangs) wheel offset Quote Selected
